What I Think The Big XII should do

I apologize if this is overdone, but I just wanted to give my opinion on what I think the Big XII should do to counteract the losses of Nebraska, Colorado, & Texas A&M
Now, assuming the Board of Directors of the Big XII can convince Oklahoma to stay put, I would go out and offer spots in the conference to Boise State, BYU, and Houston
I know those schools aren't the "sexiest" of choices, but I believe they make sense and here is why
Houston - Texas A&M leaves a hole in the Houston market. Well, if you bring in Houston that hole is covered. Houston is an up and coming program that is a bowl contender every year. They could compete with many of the teams in the B12 South IMO.
Boise State - They are in the BCS discussion every now it seems. Granted they were just put on probation and their academic standards aren't very strong, but the have a good football program and that really is the driving force behind these decisions. They could cover the area that Nebraska left. They won't be as prominent, mind you, but they are a team that could compete especially in the weaker B12 North.
Lastly BYU - Granted Texas isn't the same Texas from 2000-2009 but they are still Texas. BYU played them well and only lost by a point. BYU also beat a SEC opponent in Ole Miss in week 1, so they have talent. They also beat OU in 2009 in route to a bowl game. They are a good program who are independent right now. They would be a great addition to the Big 12 IMO.
I'm not a big fan of the SuperConference idea. I'm barely OK with the idea of 14 teams in the SEC. I think 12 is the perfect number for lots of reasons. If what I noted above comes to fruition I think it would create a pretty good balance in college football. Again just my opinion. Sorry if Germans. Thanks.

lol houston doesnt have any fans.
Texas owns that market anyway.
If A&M leaves keep it at 9 and just play a good OOC team. Maybe add BYU.

The Horns have the Houston market locked up. Also, there was an incident with some temporary stands when the 2 teams played in 2001 at Houston's joke stadium that screwed a lot of Longhorn fans from being able to see a game they paid for - how this was handled by Houston left a lot of bad blood between the athletic departments of the 2 schools.
If OU stays, look for BYU, New Mexico (tv markets) and Air Force (national following).

Wasn't aware of the incident in Houston. Thanks for the info on that.
I'm not sure about New Mexico, but I find Air Force to be interesting. They would bring back that Denver market that Colorado lost.

BYU seems to be comfortable as an independent for now. Its what they wanted, not sure they're willing to return to conference life after only a couple of games as an independent.
Houston would LOVE to be in the Big XII and might actually come back in and do some damage.
Boise, again with this?
What do they bring to the table? They have a 1 trick pony as a football team, seem to be the next Marshall.. what have they done lately?
Do they add both TVs in Idaho?
6% graduation rate (I wish I could make that shite up)
$61 million endowment, that's big money right there.
Do they even play other sports?
Ranked something like #545 college in the country.. that's really really not good.
I know people like to say that academics and athletics don't matter to a conference, but to some extent to the presidents voting to let someone into the conference, its got to matter. Boise is a community college that happens to play good football and cheats to get there.

None of those teams do much to add to a league that is no longer viable.
The schools that have choices are in CYA mode. No one wants to hang in there with the festering turd that is the Big XII just to see it fail in a few years anyway. OU wants to move while the getting is good and before it loses some of its expansion options.

I was at the game. I'm pretty sure it was the first football games played after 9/11. If I remember correctly, Houston waited until the last minute to get a fire marshal (or some inspector) to inspect the temporary seats. They were installed so haphazardly that no one was allowed to use them so 100s (if not 1000s) of Texas fans got screwed. Then UofH didn't want to reimburse people. It was a mess.

The funny thing is that these idiots are trying to convince themselves that the conference will actually be better.
There is no possible replacement for the big12 that will keep it worth a shite or viable (that includes BYU).
Doesn't matter, OU is gone.

That's about all they'd bring and I'd hope that the number of eyeballs in Albuquerque and Santa Fe would be worth it.
I stayed a few blocks away from their campus, close to "The Pit" and their football stadium, a few years ago and there was pretty much no sign outside of campus that they even had a football team.
When you go to the local Wal-Marts and other shops yet have a really hard time finding the merchandise of the local team, it's not a good sign.
We had to look REALLY REALLY hard to find some U. of NM Lobos stuff to bring back as a gift for my uncle.
By contrast, I could go into stores 100 or 200 miles from Hattiesburg and yet put my hands on Golden Eagles merchandise somewhat easily and they aren't a BCS school nor a media darling like Boise.

Not happening. Air Force can barely compete in the MWC (and only because almost everyone else is down right now). And nobody in Denver cares about Air Force.
I was at the TCU game Saturday. The size difference with them was amazing (AF players have to meet military weight standards, which means no 300-lb linemen--one of the main reasons BYU's 24-year-old Samoans used to crush them every year). Air Force will NOT trade a conference where they can at least go to a crappy bowl every year (Hello Shreveport!) for one where they are fighting with KU and Iowa State for last place.
