I mean we have a live mascot to fulfill a role.

We don;t have a live mascot for the sake of tiger welfare and as a sign of goodwill across the world. We don't have him to sit in his cage or even refuse to go out to be viewed in his habitat.

They have zoos for that.

Actually, that is part of it.

And they purposely don't let him out in to his habitat on gameday.

He is not a play toy brought on campus purely for your amusement.

you would think LSU could get a tiger in a trailer 6 or 7 times a year.

I know it's probably been mentioned at some point on this thread but everyone realizes we're talking about a 300lb carnivore who sits squarely atop the food chain, right?

but not most of it....most of it is being a mascot. hes had adequate time to adjust and i dont think many people would argue that hell never be as good at it as our most recent predecessor

Actually it really pretty much is that. If you told everyone that he would never go to games and it would just be a pretty zoo exhibit when he felt like coming out, I doubt you would have had the large force behind the fundraising effort for the most expensive residence in the state....well I dunno maybe the pennington place is worth more...

It actually isn't that at all. Maybe talk to someone from the Vet school and see what they think about Mike as a play toy on game day. And I gave a bit for the new habitat and I don't give a shite if he goes to games or not. I'm proud of the fact that Mike lives on campus in such an beautiful enclosure. I love taking my kids to see him when we're in BR. JMO.

The Vet students are a very small subset of the population. They get to play doctor on him all they want. They get the most value per tax dollar out of anyone in the state.

I wouldn't doubt if they are trying to keep him as sequestered as possible from humans so he's more like a "real tiger" for their vet school practice doctoring.

just kidding on that....but i bet the thought has crossed their mind

no arguments there. I used to love parking at old alex box lot and walking by on the way to class in the mornings

The problem is that you are just viewing Mike as a commodity instead of a living breathing magnificent creature.

Take the people that start threads calling for Mett to start and the JL/JJ bashers and toss them into his habitat.

Just a thought.

j/k.

He's a tiger for crying out loud. If he doesn't want to go, he's not going. You want to force him? Good luck with that. He's a TIGER!!

Leave him be and let him do what he wants.

Animals are both.

I'm an animal lover, don't get me wrong. I just think they also have value as a commodity and that it's ethical to treat them as such. They may be magnificent but they aren't people....they are just animals.

Just don't feed Mike for a couple of days and then through some raw meat in the trailer. How hard can it be?

That would have to be one hell of a sturdy unicycle though. Mike is a big, heavy cat.

Here is an idea, put one of those Jihad motherfu**ckers in there with him, let him run around screaming waving his arms right before its time to take Mike out into the stands... works for me!

Seriously though, if LSU really wanted Mike VI to get truly acclimated to his surrounding then LSU should have acquired a tiger cub when Mike V passed away. LSU acquired an "adolescent" tiger who basically was already set in his ways.

Cats in general are hard to train bc unlike dogs they have a much stronger will. Compound that with the fact that we didn't get to train this tiger as a baby makes all the more difficult.

They have videos of baby Mike V on a leash at basketball games and stuff, so it was no surprise that he was easily trained to do what LSU wanted him to do.

I am convinced that LSU just wanted Mike VI to be a zoo type exhibit and didn't want him to be a full fledged mascot like Mike V was. Like I said earlier, if LSU did want Mike VI to be like Mike V then they would have bought a tiger cub.
