One thing Questioning our Offense....The toss up the middle

It doesn't give LSU any advantage besides risking the running back doesn't handle the toss cleanly.
Can someone give me a good reason why a the toss up the middle is better than the traditional handoff?
What type of benefits does it offer?

Funny I ponder this myself

This is an excellent question!

Gets it to the runningback faster so he can hit the hole quicker.

RB gets the ball quicker and has longer to make the decision on which hole to hit and they can hit it harder. Not that hard to figure out really.

It gives them more time to read the gaps.

I dont understand how our fan base can consistently be this stupid. It gets the ball in his hand quickly.... which gives him a chance to pick a running lane that doesnt have a LB waiting on him. We are running the ball down teams throats!!...what are you bitching about. ITS A GREAT PLAY!. Have you seen some of the cut backs out RB have made in the back field????.... Its because they got the ball quickly and were able to look up and see the defenders.

The toss up the middle has worked pretty well from what I've seen. Why are you bitching about it? Oh, I forgot...I accidentally ventured back over to the Rant.

I think that too, but then I remember that I'm not a coach, and we seem pretty well off that way. Just enjoy the gained yards, frick.

the only thing i can figure is that maybe the coaches feel it will give the running back a split second longer to read the blocks and find the hole before reaching the line. idk??

The thing is, it WORKS!! It is a short yardage play, its not meant to break out big runs. It gives the RB longer to find a seam, and it has never been fumbled by our rbs, to my knowledge. You people

It's not simply the toss up the middle, it's the hurry-up-no-huddle toss up the middle.

You dare question our offense?!?
But seriously, good question.
Maybe the QB and RB don't have to be in perfect sync to make it an effective play. It might actually be a smoother transition for our guys than a traditional hand-off.

If this is such a no-brainer why don't any NFL teams do it?

idk , but over the years it has worked. That play got us in the end zone against Tenn to win the game.
I think it sets up the play action well for us also.

It would actually be interesting if someone did an analysis of the yards/play average by play call.
It seems like the direct handoffs have been a little more successful than the straight pitches, but I'm not really sure.
