Oklahoma might SOON deliver kill shot to Big XII?

Kirk Bohls, Austin American Statesman
Kirk knows what's up with UT, and UT runs the Big XII on most issues.
OU may do the dirty work that UT and Pac12 commissioner Larry Scott want to occur...

Should Oklahoma act upon its earnest desires and seek an invitation to join the Pacific-12 Conference — something I'm fully expecting to happen within days, if not hours — that decision could well be the killing blow to the Big 12 while also providing Texas the political cover to follow suit and ask for admission as well.

Wow. Bohls is much more informed than the Chip Browns, so there has to at least be considerable smoke. I definitely did not think the other schools would move that quickly.

What the hell would Texas Tech and Baylor do?
Posted on 8/31/11 at 11:46 pm to WoWyHi
Kansas
Kansas State
Iowa State
Baylor
Texas Tech
Would all be fricked.
Kansas could try to join the Big Ten. With their basketball program, they'd have to find their way into a big conference as long as they can qualify academically.

If they tried to keep the conference together, they would have to pick out these IMO
Wyoming
Colorado st.
Air Force
New Mexico
Tulsa
SMU
Houston
Memphis
Southern Miss
LA Tech

I just don't know if I see this happening. Then again, if all of this has shown us anything, it is that anything can happen.

Don't buy it, Longhorn BS man. I doubt the sooners want to go to the Pac or the SEC for that matter. OU, will become the big loser in this fight and hopefully Mizzou will come to the SEC.

In the past there had been rumblings about Kansas and Kansas State to the Big East. Baylor is going to be the one rotting. Oh yea, and Iowa State forgot about them. I actually feel bad for them, but Baylor? I'm going to have fun watching them rot in misery, trying to find a home.

now you're talking about the unofficial-official mouthpiece of Bellmont Hall here
If he's reporting all this, DeLoss has an agenda. Probably some tactic that favors UT
quote:
The Longhorn Network gets folded into the Pac-16 as a downsized regional network, joining the six regional networks that already exist within the conference.
if he's floating this out there, perhaps the UT AD is willing to part ways with some of that $300mil from ESPN? While I doubt that seriously, the fact that in 50 hours UT will kickoff & virtually nobody outside the stadium will be able to watch the game has them a tad bit nervous. Maybe?
Otherwise, if UT is unwilling to change the structure of the LHN, I cant see any way the PAC gives them a look, especially the way their regional TV deal is structured throughout the west coast.
Bohls is such the puppet when UT wants to instigate conjecture and get the ball rolling on some secret agenda. And, since Dodds and Mack really hate Orangebloods, they use Ketchum and Chip Brown as a way to cause misdirection in the media because they know those two will report anything.

Chip Brown is a typical UT fan around here that thinks this is the worst mistake college football has ever seen. Longhorns crying over the collapse of the Big 12 and forcing them to fair profit sharing and stronger competition. Poor Longhorns

Baylor knows they are fricked. I have logs and logs of minutes from Baylor Brass, Regents and Supporters who contacted A&M's top brass and lobbyists begging for us to stay.
Don't ask me for them... I'm not sharing.
Seriously though, if everyone (especially Texans) would have stepped back and used common sense, you would realize that there was nothing Texas politicians were going to do besides issuing some EMPTY THREATS.
A&M's general counsel earned every dime that is coming their way as they were way ahead of these empty threats.
Notice that Dan Branch isn't scheduling a meeting? Yeah, just posturing on his end and then his political future was threatened by large Dallas business leaders that are Aggies.

Thanks for that report, Gravy
Baylor should realize that market forces are at work here, and they never really deserved a BCS conference slot.

At the end of the day I think they will be all right, but it could be a fairly long day. A lot depends on how this plays out long term.
I think the first step is rationalizing to 4 major conferences, which is what is happening now. After they get the key players that they want, they will sit down and start planning the next steps which will be a movement towards playoffs. But to make that worthwhile, they need to separate the wheat from the chaff first.
If you start a playoff now, the NCAA will have to run it and that means sharing the revenue with the entire Div 1 at least. I believe the 4 power conferences will then make a move to either create new limited membership upper division within the NCAA, or they will break away completely. This div will have substantial requirments for membership in terms of facilities, sports, etc.
But there will be teams outside of the 4 conf that will meet the criteria, so you will have to invite them too to prevent all kinds of political and legal problems. This is why, imo, people like Jackie Sherrill are predicting 4 conf with 18-20 members instead of just 16. Trouble makers like Baylor will eventually get in.

nope, he's not
he may have his problems, but being a UT fan is not one of them
outside of the media, print and radio, that dude is all about Michigan

Stu, you have a good pulse on things in Austin...what are UT fans thinking right now? Do they REALLY want to go to the Pac-12? Just seems like it is a major geographical mismatch.

I don't think OU is going anywhere.
