I'm surprised that none of our Rant detectives has been able to unearth whether this guy was acive duty or a reservist. If he's a local and a reservist, he's likely a member of Weapons Company out at the airport, or maybe a company in New Orleans. It shouldn't be that hard to find out.
He's a reservist out of BR
Friend of mine that is a reservist knows him

His name is out there. Whether in uniform or out, you're supposed to represent the branch in which you serve to the best of your ability. So, regardless of his status(reserve/active), you can virtually bet there's no way he gets out of this with any less than an Article 15 from his CO. Now that could translate into a severe reprimand, fatigue detail, a fine, reduction in grade, or any combination of the four, subject to the CO's judgment and discretion.
If the guy knows that his Marine career is toast, doesn't that make it more likely that he will be inclined to cash in on a civil action?
What a mess!

ETA: Don't forget that the head of TAF is a retired USMC Major General. I'm sure he's probably made a few calls to his old buddies/subordinates already. You can bet your arse
The irony here is that at that point I think the retired USMC Major General would be the one who could face charges (unlawful command influence, or at least conduct unbecoming). I believe retired General Officers can be called back at any time.....

That's kind of a stretch. I think we all know this kind of thing goes on all the time. Besides, even if he made a call to a former colleague/subordinate asking them to look into this, he's retired. They're under no obligation to accomodate him, except as maybe a favor.
And assuming General Richard even did this, he could always just say that he perceived his actions as being for the good of The Corps. So long as he didn't suggest anything overtly out of line, of course.

Did you strain your back with that reaching?

Just out of curiosity; what does your friend (or other reservist) think about this guy?

Depends on what he said - if he waited until charges were filed and sent the 'facts' of the case over to his buddies in the Marine Corps Reserve, that's one thing. If he jumped in the mix this early, that might be a little irresponsible....

It's a stretch, but I've seen stranger shite over the years - particularly if the young Marine were eventually to have some kind of action taken against him, and involve his Congressman/Senator as a defense.....
I'm not saying any of this stuff is likely - I'm just saying:
1) The kid will not face UCMJ
and
2) No retired General Officer, TAF director or not, is going to involve himself in whatever the USMC reserves decide to do about this.....
ETA: 1000th post, someone tell Chicken I'm catching up....

There is so much fail and stupidity in this thread that I can barely read it. Are people really this stupid or are they joking?

Well its already been proven that he lied about his involvement. His Lawyer stated that he was not at the bar that night, and didnt know the other 3 guys. He was just there picking up friends and say someone getting beat. He then just tried to get him away from his attackers.

Wrong! Oh yes it does my friend, he is now what we call "ggovernment property" and that IS covered under the UCMJ

No, his body isn't government property
Yes it is... You people are insane! It may not be worded like that in the UCMJ but I know people who have gotten in trouble because of something inflicted to their body
If you don't know please don't respond like you do

Article 15, NJP, possibly loss of rank.

Actually when a person is in the service, if he or she does ANYTHING to their body, the branch they are in takes a dim view of it. They ARE Government Property while serving whether they are on or off duty. When you sign your name on the line joining the service, you pretty much sign your rights over, too.

...likely meaning he was a pt stud and could do more pull ups than others and he wasn't afraid of getting in other recruits faces for getting out of line. Honor grad is nice and it looks good in your record jacket, but no way is it always indicative of how a Marine will act once he graduates bootcamp.
I was stationed with a guy in Okinawa and he was the honor grad for his platoon out of basic, he ended up popping on a piss test and kicked out of the Corps. ...just sayin'

I agree. Hell, I was the honor grad out of bootcamp. I know it doesn't mean that he walked on water but it could indicate that the kid was trying to better himself. His Platoon Sergeant said he's a good kid even though he is a boot.

As a Marine myself, I can tell you this guy is going to get hammered by his command. You see the way it works in the Marine Corps is when any Marine bring negative attention to the Marine Corps, he is going to be punished for his actions. Doesn't matter if he got his asse kicked or not.
