The Business of College Sports
I just caught the tail end of her interview on the radio. She writes for Forbes and specializes in college sports. She does a good job offering a compelling argument that counters Perryman's bullshite report.
She also touched on our current TV contract with ESPN & CBS. She points out that the contract does call to air for a certain number of games. With an added team, it's in TV's best interest to increase the number of games it broadcasts. Also, the current contract has a "window" clause that goes into effect in two years which gives the conference the opportunity to rework the current contract or go to arbitration if the networks dont sweeten the pot. i.e the landscape of the conference changed, the clause requires both the ESPN and the SEC to accomodate the change and reflect that change in the contract. She also hinted that some sort of SEC network(s) are in the works, but didnt say much beyond that.
It was a good interview, if they put it up on the website later, I'll try and link it

Kristi Dosh is creating her own field of expertise, "The business of college sports ..."
She appears on College Football Playbook / Sirius 91 from time to time, and she has a good handle on TV, conference issues, etc. Plus she's an SEC fan.
Good find Uncle Stu

Perryman's report is pure garbage. it is designed to be "bought" by ignorant fans that could care less about the truth. their adgenda is all that matters.

I live in Houston. A&M to the SEC means that Houston becomes SEC territory...along with Dallas and all of east Texas. It will be great.
The matchups will be great...
How long will it take to see an LSU/A&M game in Reliant Stadium?

I'd be willing to say at least 6 years. I would think the conference will like to build up that rivalry first by establishing some travel $$ from the fans before moving to a neutral site.

I don't think that will ever happen Chicken. A&M will probably keep the Dallas site for the Arkansas/A&M game. I highly doubt they would be willing to have two games at neutral sites every year.

good point, I don't think A&M will do two neutral site games a year...
how long was the current series with Arkansas and A&M supposed to last, and how far into are they?
I wonder if they will continue to play there once A&M joins the conference.

why would LSU and or A&M want to give up a home game, not to mention over 20,000 additional tickets to play a conference game at Reliant?
The time frame should be never.

It's an idea that's been floated. Supposedly, some LSU folks think it would help recruiting more than playing in College Station. And both schools have large alum bases in Houston.
I would prefer home & home, but I can see why some people are talking about Reliant.

It's going to happen at some point
I wouldnt mind a 2-year series about every 8 years in Houston
Hell, I wouldnt mind a BR, CS, Houston 3 year rotation

Houston is less than 100 miles distance from College Station and is around the same distance from Baton Rouge to New Orleans. Reliant would already be a home game. It all depends on the payout. TAMU football could bring truckloads of money to the university coffers if they play teams like Arky and LSU annually in state-of-the-art NFL venues.

Well, my idea of an LSU/A&M game being in Reliant consists of the tickets being split 50/50

I agree - I dont think they'd have one bit of a problem getting a nearly even distribution of LSU/Aggie Fans

Now, if it is going to be 20+% of the tickets going to corporate sponsors, forget it. The game should be modeled after Texas/ou and Florida/Georgia

I have no doubt TAMU will have to deal with more many than they could figure out what to do with in the near future. Imagine all the money they will rake in from neutral site games with LSU and Arkansas including maintaining a yearly match-up with the Longhorns as their premiere annual OOC game.
