Well I was able to find a new duck blind. Just north of three mike lake off of 71, five miles north of 190. Been so busy with work I have not even been able to visit the property yet, put all faith into my hunting buddies. Not that it matters because I'm already committed but do any of y'all know anything about this area? Oh yes east side if 71.
hey vol, 24 today (11-24-11) and somewhere between 70-80 for the first split which is only 9 days. we made 6 humts. not to bad so far imo.

Hunted there last season. Switched pits twice and then decided to hunt some place else since the hunting sucked so bad. I was in pit 12. The only pit that killed ducks was pit 11. It was frustrating as hell. Ever place around that farm was killing the sh@t out of the ducks. They couldn't pay me to hunt out there again. On a good note, there is a store right by the bridge that has some of the best boudin you will ever put in your mouth. Head cheese is outstanding as well.
Which pit did you choose?
Did they give you any indication of how many ducks were killed last season?

8 or 9 I believe I know is was wrp owners dad wanted that one for himself but son decided to lease it us. Everyone I've talked to so far had good things to say. Don't know numbers from that farm but some guy around there said he shot 375- 400 + 50 specs, which is a lot better than we did in Kaplen last year or any year for that matter. If it sucks will be looking for new spot next year

I hunted almost 40 days there and I am flat calling BS on this. Pit 11 might have gotten to 300 ducks, but I don't think they dropped a single goose. BUT, that is the only blind that got close to that many ducks. At the end of the season Vicki (LJ's assistant) called around to all the pit owners asking their totals. Pit 11, and another one, were the only pits in triple digits.
Vicki also called me this summer asking if I was goign to come back. She told me only 3 people from last season are returning.

8 and 9 were not leased last year. They used those for hunters to rent for day hunts. I only saw one blue wing taken from back there. They had no food on those fields though. Also, I don't believe its a wrp. Those butt up against a wrp, but they were open water last season.
Look, I wish you the best of luck.

What is the price going for that area?

Hey vol, did y'all ever have good days? Did y'all kill after or before fronts? Only allowed to hunt out there 4 days a week now if you hunted 40 days must of never missed a trip. Hope you are wrong but thanks for info. Where are you hunting now?

They will open it up toward the end of the season so you can hunt more if you want. They are very reasonable to work with. But you are right, hunting both splits I hunted around 60 days.

Nope. We would see more birds, but they were headed to Lamar Advertising's place. I'm telling you, I never killed a limit on that place. Killed tons when I hunted elsewhere, but not that.

I'm still trying to find a place.

Not sure what they are charging this year, but last year was either $5K or $5500.

LJ is into a lot of things that surround his farm and farming. He very well might have a gin, just don't know. He is from New Roads if that helps.

Interesting info. I've been following this thread for a couple of days and I actually hunt about 1 mile (west) from the 3 mile lake area. I can tell you that there are plenty ducks in this area, however 1 mile can make a huge difference. A couple of years ago I left a lease about 1 mile from my current lease due to a lack of ducks (just didn't see any). Current lease was covered up in ducks last season.
Weird how things can be so different (guess it comes down to food source on a consistent basis to keep them coming back).
Good luck.

east side of 71.... like dark side of moon compared to west side of 71.... except once you get north of OG track...
know several people that have leased land and actually was feet on the ground there a lot for someone that was looking to buy that piece of land but balked..
don't know of anyone going back there for a second year.
