There is no getting around it--getting to College Station is not easy for those from distant places.

How many SEC fans do you see travelling for football games flying to Houston and then renting a car for an hour and 20 minute drive to CS..or changing planes in Houston or Dallas-Ft. Worth to fly into the tiny College Station airport?

In comparison, the visiting section in Tiger Stadium is often filled due to the fact many older people will make a weekend out of going to both new orleans and the game. Also, Tiger Stadium is within a 6 hour drive of many SEC campuses.

Will the sparsely filled visiting section at A&M SEC games help the Aggies to an extent? Looks like we have another Fayeteville on our hands.

How is this different than most college towns? Auburn, Alabama, Penn State, IU, etc

Why would flying into Houston and driving up be any different from going to New Orleans after a game in Baton Rouge?

New orleans has a lot more to offer for tourists than houston. ever been to bourbon St. the night before a major SEC game in Tiger Stadium?

Not many will be interested in visiting College Station. It lacks the charm of many SEC college towns. It is flat, ugly, sprawling. Take any average concrete strip mall and magnify it by a thousand and you get College Station.

I understand that New Orleans has the French Quarter, but you were making a point on how no one would fly into Houston to rent a car to drive to College Station. I just don't see how this is any different from flying into New Orleans and driving to Baton Rouge for the game, distance wise.

Also, the SEC has a larger ticket allotment to guests than the Big XII does. This means A&M would have to find a way to accomodate the extra guest demand without sacrificing season ticket holders.

People could fly into Austin and make the drive over. People may be more intrigued in Austin than Houston.

While I agree Houston is not a tourist mecca. and that it is hard to get around, it is not that bad to spend a day in. Same for Dallas Ft Worth.

Besides, I can imagine a whole bunch of SEC fans making the visit will use the ATM game as an opportunity to visit family in Texas. Everyone I have talked too say they look forward to visiting ATM becuase they have family there.

College station is a joke tho. Not much there and Hotel selections are at best minimal.

There will be plenty of LSU alums/fans located in the Dallas/Houston areas that will be willing to make the trip.

This is true. I am not sure about Dallas but I know there is a significant base of LSU alums in Houston.

Google maps is your friend. Baton Rouge to College Station is 6 hours too! I posted that in another thread:

Per Google maps:

Baton Rouge to College Station, TX = 6 hrs
Baton Rouge to Oxford, MS = 6 hrs
Baton Rouge to Starkville, MS = 5 hrs
Baton Rouge to Little Rock, AR = 6.5 hrs

Add on top that Houston is LSU's largest alumni base, and lots of LSU fans would make the easy trek to C.S.

Even though we have had to play in that heaping pile of monkey crap in Little Rock, I have to say that Fayetteville is much better than College Station. It may be up and out in the middle of nowhere amongst inbred hillbilly mountains but at least it offers charm. Its a cool town that looks nice and has nice surroundings. College Station is a giant pasture with concrete block buildings that look like prisons, sprinkled with parking lots and ragweed.

I think we import our baker's yeast from infected LSU co-eds, if I'm not mistaken...

Is that when you put the breading on the inside of the food instead of the outside?

Sounds difficult, yet fascinating.
