its somewhat in the article... some of the illegal money was going towards miami players... all part of coming clean with the gov't and NCAA.

Shapiro said he is firing away because the players he once helped and who claimed they were all family. Turned their backs on him during his legal troubles.

read the article, when Shapiro got in trouble he went to those successful players he had helped and they turned their backs on him. so he is doing this because he felt slighted by his 'family'

Well, from his standpoint (not saying its the correct standpoint), he's in prison, threw out all this cash, booze, toys, and women in his day to all these athletes, and when it was time for someone to stand by him during his trial and his sentencing... *crickets*.
None of his old "friends" were there.
So, from a "screw you frickers" standpoint, its pretty logical.
