You shouldnt cuz you arent going to get him. He will prob go to Bama or FSU with Auburn being the third team with an outside chance. I wouldnt be surprised if he ended up at FSU to join some friends there and get out from under the log jam LB depth of Bama.

Nobody knows where he will go. Everyone says he is a Bama lean, but what has he said to make this true?

You can make these comments about any recruit, for instance there was this kid on here a few weeks ago pretending he knew Winston and that LSU had a good shot at him. Meanwhile everyone that followed recruiting knew it was an FSU v Bama battle. If you follow recruiting closely you get a good idea of who is in the mix and i can promise you that you wont any legitimate recruiting analysts that will say that LSU has a chance (top 2) for Kwon.

According to my bama friend, it's a bama, FSU, and auburn battle. He seems to think auburn could be the school. Why do you feel differently? Is it cause you hate auburn or you have some info.
Regardless, it's probably going to come down to those 3 in the end.

Why would he need to be upset,

I am not saying I know anything about why his dad would be upset. His quote in the article is a pretty big indicator that something about this situation made him feel responsible for his son not getting the LSU offer.

quote:

"I made a big mistake'' in not calling, Cal Jones, who grew up in Algiers with LSU running backs coach and recruiting coordinator Frank Wilson, said. "It's a business and I understand.''

he is going to Nebraska to play in the black shirts defense. Thats pretty bad arse!

I hope he has a great career at NU. He'll be playing at a tradition rich university for two ex-LSU coaches that will help him in his efforts to get a degree and a shot at the NFL.

Obviously we had just as much a chance as Bama.

LOL at you for pretending that finishing second in recruiting means anything.

From Rivals article. I guess there's our answer as to why we didnt offer

So you can see how they compete against kids at their level? Stay on the rant

It's still just a fricking camp. Seeing the kid actually play in games instead of running through cones seems to be a way to earn a scholly. I guess I'm wrong though, and you know everything. Thanks for straightening me out.

Apparently, you guys don't know Bob.

If you did, you would know why statements like the one above are somewhat humorous.

Kid is too small to play LB, especially in the SEC.

He'll be moved to SS where his lack of top end speed will keep him from being anything more than an average Big Ten defensive player.

Not a big loss at all for LSU.

Funny. People said the same thing about Lavonte David (6'1, 215 when he arrived at Nebraska.. and that was a year after JUCO.. 225 lbs now).

Granted, he hasn't played a game in the Big 10 yet, so we'll see how he performs compared to last year in the Big 12.

If he sticks with Nebraska, I have no doubt this guy can bulk up fairly quickly and be a pretty good linebacker.

A 4.43 40 is hardly slow for a strong safety. PLENTY of safeties in the NFL who can't run that. Too slow for corner, maybe. But there's plenty of SEC safeties who can't run a 4.43 - I believe LSU had one a few years ago named Craig Steltz. This kid is just as big as Steltz was but faster.

He's not as big as Craig nor as fast.

He doesn't run a 4.43.

Jesuit linebacker Deion Jones commits to play football at Nebraska

After waiting several fruitless months for scholarship offers from LSU and Alabama that never arrived, Jesuit linebacker Deion Jones decided the time had arrived to make a college selection.

Jones did just that Wednesday night in verbally committing to sign with Nebraska.

Jones delivered his pledge to Coach Bo Pelini via telephone following a final consultation with his father Cal and mother Tahonas, who signed off on his decision. Jones is Nebraska's sixth commitment for 2012 and was recruited by former LSU defensive back Corey Raymond, now the Cornhuskers secondary coach.

Jones, 6-foot-2, 205 pounds, with 4.43 speed in the 40, choose the Cornhuskers, who have moved from the Big XII into the Big Ten for this season, from a list of 18 schools that made official offers. The others were Tulane, Kentucky, Arizona, Pittsburgh, Illinois, Minnesota, TCU, Kansas State, Kansas, Houston, Southern Mississippi, ULL, South Alabama, Florida International, Memphis, ULM and Arkansas State.

As the reigning District 10-5A Catholic League Defensive Player of the Year and a returning first-team All-State selection in Class 5A, Jones is fully qualified academically with a 23 on the ACT, Jesuit Coach Wayde Keiser said.

A three-year starter at middle linebacker at Jesuit, Nebraska coaches project Jones as an outside linebacker, his preferred position for college. Other schools such as LSU and Alabama projected Jones as a strong safety.

"I chose Nebraska because they're a defensively-minded school and they recruited me as a linebacker,'' Jones said. "I developed a real good relationship with Coach Raymond. I felt comfortable talking with him. He was real with me. He gave me good advice. Then I started looking up (information about) Nebraska to learn more about them. They have really good facilities.

"I had been waiting for LSU and Alabama to see if they were going to offer. But that made me look at other schools. That got me to asking my parents about how they would feel about me going away to school. That got them talking to Coach Raymond and then they became comfortable and felt good about (Nebraska).''

The clincher, Jones said, was when "Coach Raymond assured my dad that they would take care of me and make sure that I go to class, and that he'll take care of me like I'm one of his own. My parents liked what he said.''

LSU's coaching staff had indicated through Keiser that a scholarship offer was to be extended when Jones participated in the Tigers' final summer football camp in late July following his participation in Alabama's camp.

But Jones missed the LSU camp due to a death in his family, according to his father Cal, after the younger Jones had participated in Alabama's camp just days earlier. Neither Cal or Deion Jones contacted the LSU staff and the offer was withdrawn.

LSU accepted commitments from Katy, Texas, Morton Ranch defensive end Danielle Hunter and DeSoto, Texas, cornerback Jalen Mills instead on July 20.

Jones had participated in LSU's 2010 camp in the summer prior to his junior year and was selected as a team MVP.

"I made a big mistake'' in not calling, Cal Jones, who grew up in Algiers with LSU running backs coach and recruiting coordinator Frank Wilson, said. "It's a business and I understand.''

So the Joneses moved forward and into the Big Red fold.

"As a family we prayed about it and we feel good about it,'' Cal Jones said. At Nebraska "They make sure 95 percent of their athletes graduate. They take real good care of the kids from out-of-state. They have great tradition. They have a great coach in Coach Pelini. They've produced a lot of linebackers in the (NFL).''

"I think Nebraska is going to be a great place for him because they're trying to recruit athletic types of people to play linebacker and in the secondary,'' Keiser said. "Bo Pelini has always recruited that kind of kid. The biggest thing Debo (Jones) brings to the table is his athleticism.''

Straight from the Times Picayune. But I guess that article's wrong and you have your inside sources, eh? My bad.

And I'm sure the TP got that 40 time and his height/weight from Jesuit and/or Jones' family. Because it's in the Times Picayune doesn't make it true. Athletes lie about their 40 time/height + weight all the time.

Seeing Jones play, he hasn't impressed me with his speed/acceleration, and it's no secret that he's undersized. I just don't see a big time D1 LB with the kid.

Then to cut to the chase, we can agree to disagree. I live in New Orleans and have seen him play four or five times, and I sure as hell am impressed. St. Aug's coach called him the best defensive player he's coached against. Sure, I don't take the numbers that the Picayune reports to always be 100% accurate, but Scout.com and Rivals.com both list the time of 4.43 in the 40. I don't think they rely solely on player reports for their information. Steltz' combine times in the 40 were more in the 4.55- 4.65 range. Jones probably isn't quite as big as Steltz and I'm sure he doesn't pack the punch yet that Steltz did, but if those two have a footrace, I'm putting my money on Jones every time.

Nevertheless, I'll concede your point that he may not be big enough to play LB in the SEC, although at 210 lbs, I still think he can pack on another 15-20 lbs in the next year or two. And it's no secret that Chavis prefers speed over size. I think we'll see many of LSU's backers weighing in the 225-230 range during the Chavis tenure. But the point I was making is that he is absolutely fast enough to play safety at a D1 School, which I believe you had said that his lack of "top end speed" would prevent him from being anything more than average. That is where we disagree. Hopefully, the LB's LSU has signed turn out great, and they sign Collins to play safety, and Jones does well at Nebraska at OLB. We'll see how things shake out for him.

Valid point, which I respect.

To me, he just looks like a tweener (size wise) between an OLB and a SS (more suited for SS imo) + a tweener (speed wise) between an OLB and a SS.
The 4.43 number may have been gotten from a camp, but in 90% of the instances the numbers/measurements on a scout/rivals profile is reported by the athlete himself.

There's no doubt Jones has been a force in the Catholic League and has legit college-level talent, I just see his lack of size and top end speed will keep him from being anything more than an average OLB/SS in the Big Ten.

Debo may be undersized, but he plays big for his size... Yes, he will have to bulk and pack on some additional muscle for the collegiate level... I'm certain he'll be ready to shine and prove his worthiness...
