while we are indeed purple and gold, our uni's are yellow. it probably stems from the old days when gold really was a difficult color to produce and the yellow looked better with the purple. it is now tradition and i don't care what non lsu people see, i see purple and GOLD.

True, but for a guy that claims to be a die hard, he should know better.

I'm glad someone else said this. Yes, they are yellow. I tried to explain the whole "gold" thing to a fan of another SEC team (can't recall which), but had no answer, other than it's LSU's school colors.
But I'll never bust out with "yellow and purple". "Purple and yellow" would have been just a tiny bit better

Well said grandad --- when the team played the game in the nike pro combat uni's and the gold "sparkle" helmets, just didn't look right

Origins from Mardi Gras colors, which is the "Canary Yellow" hue/shade of "Gold."
Tulane coaches/players bought up all the Green ribbon to adorn their uniforms. (For the first LSU vs Tulane game) Only Purple and Gold (Mardi Gras Canary Yellow) was left for the Tigers to use.
