re: Klinsmann tactics v Bradley tactics

I honestly think to a certain extent. Bradley IS what everyone Klinsmann hopes to be. Bradley started a youth movement and capped a ridiculous amount of players. More than I had originally thought.
I also think that Klinsmann will reap some of Bradley's rewards as well. (I guess that can be said for every soccer coach)
I do think that our youth system could be "spruced" up but I don't think it is in bad shape at all.
I do think we need an identity. However, with what we have. I'm not sure if we can pull of an all encompassing attacking style ATM. It takes time. Donovan was in one of the very first Bradenton Academies.

And I'd like to figure out why our defenders allow so many more counter-attacking goals when they aren't noticeably slower than the Germans (are any of them besides Lahm really fast? I don't think so).
I think the German defenders are their team's weakest link but they still have better positional discipline which is where we are most severely lacking. Not to mention how much better Germany's attacking players are at not losing possession in dangerous positions.
As I'm posting this I'm watching Colorado score on a counter against Philadelphia in which 3 Philly defenders are all back and all three are watching the player with the ball and not one drops with the winger making a run.
Maybe not even American defenders but it underlines my point. Along with first touch that everyone points out we need European developed defenders that have a "first step" toward the right position.

Straight line defense is going to get you killed. A diagonal line when the ball is on the outer third of the pitch is easy. I have seen it over and over. Ball watching on defense is our achilles heel.

I like this. The US needs an identity and I think a cross between latin flair and german physical style is the best mesh. I dont think this hire wins us a world cup but I think it lays the ground work. I think he can lay the groundwork to make us a regular 1/4 final team

Agreed. Please say you are an Arsenal fan.

LOL. We are all great posters though. You know my Bayern loyalty. It extends back to Toby Charles calling "Soccer made in Germany" on PBS in the late 70's. We both love good football and Germanic style mangaement of finances.

Got me started, too.

I think the answer to this thread is Klinsmann's head assistant's tactics vs Bradley tactics

I always knew there was a Brian Clough element to Klinsmann's success. I just wasn't sure how deep it runs. I guess I'll just expect more attack-oriented tactics?

Yeah, he likes to play an attacking style of soccer, but let's just hope he learned from his time at Bayern and gets himself another Jogi. If I remember correctly, he trotted out a 3-5-2 multiple times while the head man at Bayern.

This would be horrifying with our defensive personnel

Indeed.

I imagine he will bring a Euro style 4-2-3-1
Bradley's 4-4-2 was very rigid and shut out a lot of talent that couldnt fit regularly into that formation ie. torres, gomez, feilhaber....I imagine over the next year we will see a lot of experimentation, 4-3-3, 4-5-1, 4-1-3-2 (against some minnows), and maybe some 4-4-1-1 with clint playing behind jozy or agudelo
Just my two cents

Bradley actually experimented quite a bit down the stretch. A few injuries kind of derailed his experiments

True, after the panama game he started to implement a 4-2-3-1 actually more like a 4-5-1...would have like to see more of that throughout his career
