Didn't know he died the same day of his last day on the air
quote:
DeathWolfman Jack had finished broadcasting his last live radio program, a weekly program nationally syndicated from Planet Hollywood in downtown Washington, D.C. Wolfman Jack said that night, "I can't wait to get home and give Lou a hug, I haven't missed her this much in years." Wolfman had been on the road, promoting his new autobiography Have Mercy!: Confessions of the Original Rock 'N' Roll Animal, about his early career and parties with celebrities. "He walked up the driveway, went in to hug his wife and then just fell over," said Lonnie Napier, vice president of Wolfman Jack Entertainment.[12][13] Wolfman Jack died of a heart attack in Belvidere, North Carolina, on July 1, 1995.

His morbid obesity killed him I'm sure.

didn't know he was that heavy, although with that voice he 'seemed' like a 4 pack a day smoker

He definitely rocked the Midnight Special and was a great DJ as well.
What was his real name?

Bob Smith (Robert Weston Smith) He actually worked in Shreveport at KCIJ in 1961. And since I'm on the subject,, George Carlin also worked in Shreveport at KJOE in 1956.
FWIW...
George Carlin's show opener from 1956 at his first radio job, KJOE/Shreveport

Just a FWIW, but that date is wrong -- George mentions he's about to play the Everly Bros and they did not have their first hit until 1957

You probably know this a lot better than me, but I did a quick search and found that the Everly Bros recorded a couple of singles in 1956 for Columbia. Both were apparently flops, though.
"Keep A-Lovin' Me"
B-side: "The Sun Keeps Shining"
Maybe it was those. :shrugs:

As a child of the 70's I remember the Wolfman.

I remember him slightly, but I certainly always knew who he was because my dad did a (pretty decent) WJ impression all throughout my fricking childhood.

You don't sound very appreciative.

Also, I was super young, but don't I recall him having some TV show back in the late 70's?

Didn't he even have a cartoon back in the early 80's?

He had a prominent role in American Graffiti. It's a pretty good flick with a great soundtrak.
