Fishing in Lake Borgne with two friends and my son.
My son catches a small hardhead and as I have done 1000's time before I grab the little sucker behind the fins, remove the hook and the whole time I'm talking to my son telling him this is how it's done.
Go to throw the little frick and it's side fin embeds between my thumb and index finger and goes soo deep that it's barbs are latched onto something in my hand.
I instinctivly pull it out and feel the barbs ripping shite up.
Instantly my hand feels as it's going to explode and I see stars and my ears start ringing.
I spent the next 1 1/2 hours laying on the front deck of the boat fighting black-out pain.

After the first 45 minutes one of my friends asks me if I want a pain pill.
fricker had a 10 mg. Loratab and held out on me for 45 minutes

Said that I was teaching my kid a lesson on how to remove a hardhead properly and figured that seeing his pops roll around on the deck of the boat like a little bitch for an hour was a very good lesson on how to never grab a hardhead.

Ohh and here's one mule my kid landed before the hardhead incident.
Weighed 3 1/4 lbs. on the Boga.

Sorry about the catfish, I hope that fricker met his maker after the incident. (my favorite way of leveling the playing field after getting stung)

Hmm, your friend travels around with Lortab in his pocket?

Nice fish.

friend has herniated discs in his back and loves fishing.
Pretty much the only way he can cope with a boat ride of extended periods.

One of your friends had 2(or something really similar) in his dop kit at Grand Isle. You know, just in case Jim showed up.

I'm stunned no one in that group pulled out a blunt. Maybe the kids next door had them staying legal.

To the OP, my bad. I have a buddy with constant pain also and he pops Lortab everytime we fish. Then he almost falls out of the boat.

I got zapped by a hard head once when I was a kid; it was one of the most painful things I've ever endured. I was so delirious with pain that I ran into the wrong cabin in utter agony.

About 10 years ago,I stepped on a stingray in Fourchon while cast netting huge white shrimp at the jetties.
Bled out pretty good and I wanted to cut my leg off several times.
That was the worst pain I've ever felt and I was sick for 5 days.

The pain that hardhead delivered rivaled that sting ray for the first hour.
I was pretty surprised at how bad my hand hurt.

We refuse to ever let those frickers in the boat at all. Hit 'em on the snout with pliers to stun them, and flip the hook out.

stingray hit much worse than a hardhead hit by far

I like to lay hard heads on the side of the boat still on the hook and whack em with my little fish bat then take em off. Same with stingrays. Better them than me.
