49-19 vs American league opponents since April 15th.

Sox fan for 55 years now - yet something just does not feel right here. Can't put my finger on it.
Anyone want to weigh in ?

They are only the second best team in baseball.

Don't know if they are or not but there's nothing they can do about it anyway. They're playing damn good baseball right now and all you can do is just hope it continues.

They might not even need Clay back until late August.

Red Sox will make the postseason, but they will need Bucholtz and Lester at full strength to have a shot to win the WS.

Not even close to peaking. If and when they get to full strength with Buchholz, Lester, Crawford and then settle in at LF with Reddick, they'll come together more and get better.

At the start of the season they were almost written off for winning the division from their shitty terrible start. Now they are too good.

You people need to figure it out.

Crawford

He is already back, so Reddick plays RF now.

Lester

Starts tomorrow.

They will not the win the World Series. The emergence of Cole Hamels as a truly elite pitcher puts Philly over the edge.

Everything went wrong early, now there is a lot going right. It's just the way things go in a long season. They will have another rough patch or two before the end of the season. As long as the bullpen comes together and Lester and Becket are full strength come playoff time, the Sox will have a good shot at the WS.

Sure Hamels has stepped up, but Oswalt has taken a step back.

Having Wakefield and Lackey as starters is going to hurt them in the long run. They get unbelievable run support but that won't be the case every time out.

I really like Reddick, the kid plays his arse off every single game. Any chance he can hold onto the starting RF spot long term? It's not like drew is putting up much of a fight anyway.

As long as we make the post season, it won't matter. Neither of these guys will start a post season game assuming the other guys are healthy.

Exactly. If need be they can just go 3-man rotation in the postseason if they need to. They have very little competition in the playoffs.

NY - Starting pitching won't hang with Boston. We have a solid #1 and after that it goes way downhill. If they keep games tight it could be a different story though. Best pen in the league.
DET - Meh.
Texas - Meh.

San Fran - Doesn't have the offense. Even if they got Beltran, Boston has one guy to shut down.
Pittsburgh - Won't even entertain this. Even if they make the postseason they won't make the WS.
St. Louis - IMO, better shot at taking Boston than Phillie.
Atlanta - Similar to NY IMO. They have slightly better pitching though.
Phillie - I like Boston's lineup in those games.

JD just got put on the DL, i like the way he plays as well, but some say they are after Beltran to play RF so we'll see how that works out.

Boston's bullpen will be its issue if/when it makes the playoffs. It is not a bad bullpen, but I never feel comfortable with it either.

Not really a big deal. Cliff Lee was not there in 2010. The Phillies have three of the top ten pitchers in baseball. In my opinion, Hamels was not top ten before this season started, but the development of his cutter was huge.

He is bound to regress. If the Red Sox are smart, then they should go for Beltran or someone else of the sort.

Why? What has he shown that would back you think he can't be a very good player? I am really impressed with the guy and think he helps answer the Sox problem in RF.
