Anyone have one? Family thinks it would be a good idea? We saw a new one at the landing the other day w a 175 yama on it, guy takes off hauling arse. Pro's cons?

Not had one, but some good friends of ours just got one. We have gone out on it a few times. Way more fun than I thought it would be. Can fish for pan fish too.

how big of a boat and motor? my concern would be being able to get like at least a 90hp on one

They can be fun. We use a buddy of mines pontoon to spider rig and troll for crappie and it's a good, relaxing time...

Not sure on boat, but it's way underpowered. I think he had a 60. It needs at least a 90. I saw one a few weeks ago with a 225. It was shining.

yeah I bet they want some coin for those, was looking for a used one but most seem underpowered

I don't own one be we rent one between 10 and 15 times a year. We have a 2, 5, and 10 year old so it is perfect for us. We pull the kids on tubes and cruise the lake. It all depends on what you're wanting for.

Ive seen one on the Amite with a 225hp. he hauls arse! Saying that I would never own one but its good to know someone that does, that way you can get drunk as a skunk while they drive

I have no idea of the quality or price, but South Bay boats have exploded in popularity in the Diversion/Maurepas area. One of my neighbor's has one with a 225, but we have never discussed how it runs. I have seen another with twin motors, perhaps 90s

i just got a 22' Berkshire Pontoon with the Fishing package and we love it! its a center console with two live wells, rod holders, depth finder.
can't beat it for holding 12 people to fish and have a great time.

My parents have one they use when they go to their place in Arizona. It's a fishing pontoon with 4 fishing seats and 2 live wells. My dad says it's fun to play when there's alot of people. Not so much with just 2-3 people.

I've been on several Bentley's, Bennington's, and South Bay's. South Bay's are top of the line quality and performance wise. Parents bought one last year with a 250 4 stroke and it runs great. Tops out close to 50, can cruise 30 all day with 10 people on board. Still burns less gas than their last barge with a 115.
Triple toon's with lifting strakes are a must have if you want any kind of performance. Clean, used ones are pretty hard to come by. The ones you do come across are way overpriced.

i've got a 22' w/ a 90 4-stroke. plenty of motor for what we do. i really don't want to go mach 4 in a pontoon

We have a 26' Bennington with a 225 Yamaha. By yourself it will run in the 40s but loaded down with 12 people it will still run in the 20s with no problem and doesnt suck as much gas as a small motor. Def buy a the bigger motor. Worth every penny

great quote. My buddy has one but it's way underpowered with a 60 Suzuki 4 stroke, though it's rated for a 90 I think (about 21-22 ft). I've seen some of the bigger ones with three pontoons pushed by twin Merc Verado 300's. They can be a lot of fun, just don't under power it. You won't regret having maxed out the HP when you're loaded down with people and coolers, etc.

Father in law has a 20' 150hp, plenty of fun for the kind of boat it is. It has the bench seats that fold out into a bed and the full canopy if you want to spend the night on it.
