Where would you rank the MLS amongst other leagues around the World?

Was asking a friend about this the other day, but we are both fairly "new" to soccer and could not come up with a complete list.
Just wanted to see the Soccer boards opinion...

Now I think it may be on par with some of the lesser European leagues, but that isn't saying much. Every country in Europe has some dinky league, that doesn't mean it is worth a damn.
The MLS doesn't stack up to Europe's three or four best, that is for sure. It doesn't even stack up to the best leagues in this hemisphere, to be honest.

I believe the general consensus on this board is say about on par with weaker European leagues (Scandanavian), Mexican. Maybe with the Russian league?

Better than the SPL for sure.

The Russian League throws around a lot more money than the MLS. The only thing the Scandinavian leagues have on us is the proximity to the Bundesliga and others of that sort.

The top teams in the Russian league seem a lot better than MLS level but I don't really follow that league at all as far as knowing depth.

Behind the EPL, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, Brazilian Serie A, French Ligue 1, Dutch league, Portuguese, Turkish, and Argentinian. Possibly lower than the Russian league and a few league 2s.

I have seen where MLS would be ranked around Belgium's quality as well.
As for Russia, aren't they also a two-team league between Spartak Moscow and Zenit?

It's funny how everyone says we are rated way too low. 57 is a bit harsh but what have we done to say other wise? We are a relatively new league, in a country known for having poor soccer.

I'd say we are somewhere between the English Championship and League 1. Probably closer to Championship but definitely not that level yet.

We do not have poor soccer. We are a top 25 soccer nation, and we should only improve. The wealth, size, and experience of the US will lend itself to eventually being a power.

Our soccer isn't poor. As stated above we are at least a top 25 national team And did you read the list? Peruvian league 38 spots ahead of MLS? Other questionables: Ecuador, Swiss, Israel, Egypt, Serbia, Tunisia, Japan, Slovakia, Bolivia, Nigeria, Costa Rica, South Africa, Cameroon, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Ireland, Estonia, Iran, Guatemala, Finland, Honduras, and China all having better leagues than MLS is just completely unrealistic.

Above the Scandinavian. Below the SPL and Russia.

LOL if China has a better domestic league than the US does then we might as well just give up.

According to IFFHS we are much much lower than I would venture to guess
That's because IFFHS ranks completely off of inter-league competition, and the MLS just now started giving a shite about the Concacaf champions league. We were in the 100's last year.

It's pretty much impossible to really rank the leagues by any system--even say the top European leagues --other than impression and opinion because of exactly the point you make: even head to head doesn't really tell the story because of the extreme variation in how seriously clubs take inter league matches.
Just like using Europa League so heavily in UEFA league rankings really skews the real reflection of league strength when a Man City or Juventus ect is just playing filler to rest stars for league play against clubs that are treating the match like their own CL final.

Correct.
These rankings have the Bundesliga ranked behind the Brazilian league.
