Wrong it is not an investment. A diamond has no real value. There are millions of them sitting in vaults all over the world.

Furthermore, unless things get really bad you are NEVER going to turn that "investment" liquid.

Do you insure other gifts you give your wife or children? (Rhetorical)

By this logic, basically nothing qualifies as an investment.

empty homes, unsold property.

To the OP, get a personal articles policy, costs pennies. And take your real jewelry and watches in to get serviced occasionally..checking settings and clasps, etc.

I don't routinely give my wife/kids gifts of that value. But when I do (cars, jewelry, etc), I get it insured in case something happens.
