Homemade Ice Cream

Thinking of making some homemade ice cream for the 4th. Have been looking at recipes and some call for cooking the base and some do not. Anyone have any experience and preferences? The ones that call for cooking include eggs and I would think would make a richer ice cream. Any thoughts or recipes would be appreciated.

Made a batch tonight. 7 uncooked eggs in the mix and I'm still alive. Check with me in the morning...if I'm still here, I'll post the recipe if you need it.

I've never made one with eggs before, although I've seen the recipes and they do look tasty.
One tip to remember when making homemade ice cream: Start early. Some recipes/makers require you to warm the cream mixture to melt the sugar (even if you're not using eggs), and then it has to be chilled for several hours before you put it in the ice cream maker.

Would love the recipe - if you are still alive in the AM
Did you make just vanilla? I am craving homemade banana.

That is what is making me hesitate. Some of the recipes called for chilling the mixture overnight but did not feel like going to the grocery today.
The ones with the eggs, cream and sugar looked like they would be much richer and of course the higher the butter fat content the better the ice cream!

My wife has hidden the recipe and retreated to her bedroom. .I'm weakened...either from the uncooked eggs or the ginormous amount of booze I've had. Here's what I did:
7 large eggs
2.25 cups of sugar
3tsp Vanilla extract
2 pints heavy cream
1 tsp salt
1 large can Pet evaporated milk
Whole milk
Method:
Put all ingredients but the milk in a bowl and blend well. Pour into your freezer and fill to top line with whole milk. Freeze withe ice cream salt per standard method.

Thanks Otis, so how was the flavor? Would like to avoid cooking the base if the flavor is as good. My only problem is my ice cream churn is probably an antique (old hand crank kind) and I will have to check if there is a fill line.
The alcohol will probably kill any bacteria from the eggs so I am sure you will survive
Thanks for the recipe. Will see if I still have the craving and feel like going to the store.
Just trying also to determine how many and how to do the bananas. If I remmeber in the past we just threw then in the freezer but some of the recipes I read instructed to puree in a blender first.

My wife is about the same as the above but she uses six eggs and vanilla paste. For banana they need to be real ripe.
And she has never cooked it always raw and I make homemade mayo with raw yolks and keep both for a month.

To the OP, the flavor is very nice. To Martini, my recipe calls for 6 eggs too,but my hair was kinked up pretty good so I got wild with the eggs.Best ice cream I ever had was made with the fresh cream of a half Jersy I bought with my first bank loan. I was 9.

To quote Andy Rooney, "frozen custard has eggs, ice cream does not".
Frozen custard is very good and a real treat, but sometimes it is not what I'm aiming for. My vanilla ice cream has milk, cream, sugar and vanilla (bean if I have, otherwise extract). I will add almost any fresh fruit, peaches, strawberries, bananas etc. Another variation is using real maple syrup, I have an unending supply stream, instead of sugar and add pecans for maple/pecan IC.

Well you are right even though I can't stand Andy Rooney. Most people just don't differentiate.

just drag your desired ingredients in to the bowl:
Create your own ic cream
made a very good vanilla-bean bourbon and some strawberries n' cream last week
