Bettman can't run away from this. He needs accept Phoenix can't work there.

A NHL team in NOLA would get less support than a MLB team would.

Not happening.

Move them to Hamilton, Mississauga, Quebec, or even Halifax. Hell, even a second franchise in Boston or Minneapolis would be more successful than Phoenix. And move the Islanders and the Panthers while they're at it.

Halifax Boston rivalry would be great, but QC will get the next one to be relocated Mississauga/Hamilton will happen as the result of expansion probably (estimates around a half Billion for a 2nd Toronto team....with 70 mil going to Toronto Maple Leafs and maybe 20 mil. to Buffalo...maybe...

I love the Halifax and its connections with Boston. If a team were moved there, they'd be able to draw interest from the other Martimes, but I have to figure drawing 18k on a consistent basis would be a challenge just because it's such a small city. You're right, Quebec and another Southern Ontario franchise are both more feasible at the current time. In any event, the cup is heading up there for the second time in three years (and, incidentally, it's headed to New Brunswick and Newfoundland as well).

We moved here 2 years ago from Toronto, I had no idea about how close the two cities are...The Halifax explosion and Boston's subsequent selfless response to it is awe inspiring but it goes both ways, Halifax and Nova Scotians genuinely love Boston and so many people have family in Maine and Mass. Honestly I think it's just like the twin cities in Minnesota...

Yep, nice touch. I'm in Boston, but I've traveled extensively in Nova Scotia, so it holds a special place in my heart. Beautiful place with wonderfully friendly people.

Oh and Halifax would sell out no problem, it's the corp. boxes that might be a problem....

I have no doubt they'd sell out initially. But, would they sell out ten years from now if they had a losing team? It's the same suggested problems with Winnipeg except on an even smaller scale. And, there are of course the corporate commitment problems that you mention as well. I'd still say it's among the top 5 or so Canadian markets that doesn't currently have a team.

Completely off-topic, but do you think Toronto could support an NFL team that's been occasionally mentioned? I've always been under the impression that they could.

Without a doubt and more importantly Toronto is corporate $$$$$$$$$$, Toronto has 12 or 13 times the population of Buffalo and 10 times the corporate base, more importantly Toronto wants it baaaaad.

The Coyotes really need to leave Phoenix. The hockey fans here are from elsewhere and support their home teams.

With all the French names in hockey it ought to go well with the Cajuns. The hard hitting should go great for the N.O. fan base. Another winner in N.O. would be great for the residnets of the Crescnet City.

That's why teams in Winnipeg make more financial sense in the NHL today than teams in Atlanta or Phoenix or Nashville or Carolina.

Its not that the NHL needs to contract teams, they just need to let franchises relocate to areas that are more supportive of hockey. Seattle, Portland, Quebec or Hamilton would all be better locations then Pheonix. Its not rocket science!!
