Settle down there boss. I think all he was getting at is an AR is not an ideal first rifle to own.

They are expensive for one thing. The guy doesn't need to drop a grand on his first gun.

Another thing is they are fairly complicated. They are relativity difficult to operate, and kinda a pain in the arse to clean.

They are also more dangerous than a .22 LR just because I can kill you from farther away with a 5.56 nato than a .22 lr.

Nobody here is against this guy buying whatever rifle he wants. Just trying to give him some sound advice to make an intelligent first purchase.

A few people are. The point is, at some time in our lives, we were all inexperienced oh handling/operating firearms. It doesn't matter if you were 6 or 36 when you learned, it's never too late to be a responsible gun owner.

They're not really for comparable caliber. They can be had for less than a thousand easily.

So the military and a huge number of law enforcement agencies in the US have chosen the most complicated weapon to use and operate?

You can field strip one with almost no tools. Basic cleaning can be done with shoe laces and a little oil.

Don't get me wrong, I think the 10/22 is a great platform and it will be my next gun to buy. I just think that it can't be any more complicated to break down an AR vs 10/22.
