Hey Fellas-

I'm off to a good start this weekend. Caught 22 trout from the yak this morning in Navarre. The biggest was right at 20". I know there are big trout here, my question is what is your go to bait to catch big trout? No structure where I'm fishing, just grass flats. Thanks, I'll hang up and listen.

I'd suggest some type of topwater bait if you're going for size. Was catching some big trout on some double rigs the other weekend. I assume it's like most fish... bigger the bait, bigger the bite helluva morning!

Topwater's early if the wind is mild. Croakers are an easy bet as well. Where are you fishing? Navarre? As in Florida?

Yeah, Navarre, FL. Going back out after a quick nap. Thanks for the input guys. Too windy today for topwater, hopefully it'll settle down right before dark for that.

Yeah, he's in Navarre, FL. If you can find some croakers, those produce pretty well.

When I say LY, do you guys know what type fish is referred to as LY because that isn't it's actual name. I have no clue what this bait fish's true name is

All I know is that when I fish in St. Joeseph Bay in Florida, using a "LY" catches the biggest trout

Sounds made up.

I'll post the place where I fish later tonight. Gonna get a nap real quick so I can head back out. If someone figures out what LY is, lemme know.

In FL I think they are referring to a threadfin herring.

My best trout ever 8.5 lbs came from just south of there.I catch big trout on high tide with a soft plastic(pearl or pink) jerk bait rigged weedless. If grass is sparse try hard plastic stick bait(Long A chrome and black).Good luck with the wind.
