Hornets 247 has an article up listing Free Agent, Draft, and Trade options for shooting guard. More or less the usual suspects. LINK /

An interesting comment from the guy that supposedly has friends in the Lakers organization:

quote:

But I know VERY well that not only Brown, but Sasha Vujacic is also VERY interested in joining the Hornets this summer. Brown, Sasha, and Trevor were clubbing buddies while in LA together, so the two would love to join Trevor in New Orleans.

LINK

Money and playing time will probably be the primary factor in where guys end up, but it's good to know the Hornets are seen as a positive destination right now, which probably wasn't the case the last few years.

Shannon would be an instant upgrade at SG and Vujacic could replace Belli but I'm not sure he'll be available for the right price.

I'd take Vujacic as a starter over Green and Belinelli, but I see Brown as a backup/6th man type. Too small to be on the court at all times next to Paul.

Here's my list of who I want in order;

Nick Young (Restricted)
Aaron Afflalo (Restricted)
Leandro Barbosa (Unrestricted)
Jamal Crawford (Unrestricted)
Jason Richardson (Unrestricted)
Sasha Vujacic (Unrestricted)
Tracy McGrady (Unrestricted)
Michael Redd (Unrestricted)
Mike Dunleavy (Unrestricted)
Shannon Brown (Unrestricted)(Player Option)
Marcus Thornton (Restricted)
Daequan Cook (Restricted)
JR Smith (Unrestricted)
Delonte West (Unrestricted)
Von Wafer (Unrestricted)

OJ Mayo (tradeable)
Andre Iguodala (tradeable)
Stephen Jackson (tradeable)

Shannon would be nice, but only if we add two shooting guards and he's just a novelty add on.

I just don't like his game as it is right now. Who knows, maybe playing with CP3 would ignite something, but it wouldn't thrill me.

This is some refreshing news. I'd take Vujabitch and Brown any day, for the right price.

You would take McGrady over Thornton and JR Smith and Shannon Brown and every single player you listed after Tracy McGrady?

Agent Ziko, the guy with Laker connections, says the Lakers are in serious talks with the Timberwolves over a Gasol for Kevin Love swap. I'm not sure how serious the talks really are if he's finding out about it at this stage, but this is the type of deal where the Hornets could use their trade exception to pick up a decent player they can use like Martell Webster.

quote:

The Laker's are NOT happy with Pau after his playoff performance, and are in talks with MULTIPLE teams about moving him. The deal with Minnesota is on the table for the Lakers if they want it. So this is what would happen.

LAKERS get: Love. 2nd pick. Milicic. Webster.

MINNY gets: Gasol. Blake.

The Lakers also have the HIGHEST payroll in the league and would love to dump some of it if possible with the new CBA coming. They don't need Webster. They have Kobe. Artest. Barnes ahead of him. They'd RATHER slash payroll.

In comes New Orleans, who has $6,656,000 left from the Peja Exemption. We trade the exemption to the Lakers for Webster ALONE. No other player can be packaged alongside Webster.

Now he's not saying the Hornets are involved in any of these talks, just that our trade exception and roster needs make us a logical facilitator to many trades that could go down on draft night. Lots of other potential trades in the thread at 247 LINK /

As a starter, yes, if he's healthy. No way we could have Chris Paul and Shannon Brown as our starting backcourt.

I don't want JR Smith, and we're not getting Thornton back.

I'm not convinced that Ziko knows a damn thing.

But even if he does, Minny is getting arse-raped in that deal. I really don't believe it. They love Love (lulz) over there.

But IF it did go down, and we were able to pick up Webster for TPE, AND we were able to get Shannon Brown and Vujabitch, and we re-signed Landry, West didn't opt out (and recovered fully), we are in pretty good shape.

Paul/Jack/Vujacic
Brown/Vujacic/Webster
Ariza/Webster
West/Landry
Okafor/Gray

You could also exercise options on Belli and Smith to add some depth. Pretty good roster actually.

Don't think we can afford all of that though.

He seems reasonable enough and not like your typical attention whore, but like I said, if these deals were truly at the serious stage, it doesn't seem like he would know about them.

Another strike against Ziko, he says Gasol is motivation to get Rubio to come on over but according to the ESPN, Rubio coming over is pretty much a done deal except for the buyout. LINK

But I posted about Krispy Kreme and Popeyes yesterday, so even bad insider info is exciting at this point. Whether he's right or wrong I do think the Hornets can pick up someone like Webster or Pietrus with the trade exception if Demps wants to go that direction.

Webster would be a badass pickup. QPon needs a year in the D-League or as the #3 SF. He's not quite ready IMO.

It is fun to think about realistic improvements to the team instead of the dread of an extremely extended lockout, CP leaving, having no owner, etc.

I feel much more optimistic with the coaching staff and front office that we have now, over the ones of the past. I just wish we had a DAMN owner. Somebody needs to step up and buy the Hornets, preferably someone committed to staying in NO.

The fact that Gary Chouest was still attending games, sitting right next to the Hornets coaches tells me that he is VERY much still in play to be owner. I think he's just a very smart business man and making sure to have all his bases covered. So he'll probably wait until after he knows for sure what's happening with the CBA.

He's publicly stated he didn't want to sell his minority stake. Supposedly debt assumption was the main sticking point between he and Shinn. Shinn had to sell to avoid bankruptcy and Chouest didn't want to bail him out again so the league stepped in to make sure there wasn't a fire sale on another franchise. A more favorable CBA with the books scrubbed clean should be a slam dunk purchase by Chouest based on what we think we know.

I'm not even close to a business man. Hell, haven't even taken a single business management course in college, but lemme take a stab at this:

So, the NBA buys the team, they absorb the debt, then Chouest can buy the team later from the NBA, at a price he likes.

Maybe throw in a 10,000 season tickets request for a bonus incentive?

Could something in that neighborhood be likely?

Chouest will not ever be the majority owner. He very well could buy a chunk of the team if another player comes along, but he will not move into majority ownership. This is a franchise in a small market with 100 million in debt. Someone has to really want to keep the team in NOLA to buy in now.

I thought they made Shinn eat the debt so when they resell it they'll get all the money Shinn owed them back.
