Bought a small kit the other day and I'm going to try it out.

I'll update over the next hour or so during the initial brew. It'll take a few hours to get it to the bottling phase, and an additional few weeks until it's ready.

I'll update with pics.

Put 2 tbsp of gypsum salt in the boil to really make the hops sing.

how much was the kit and how much does it make?

I wanted to try it out. I already have some recipes but just never got around to it.

You will probably get more interest/responses on the F and D Board FWIW. Good luck anyway

$35 but it includes a bunch of stuff you can reuse. If I was just buying grain and hops, it would be cheaper.

Is that one of the Brooklyn beer 1-gal kits? I've heard good things about them. One of my friends is going to try one out in a few days. He's been holding off on getting into home brewing for a bit, bit the small batch piqued his interest.

Yeah. I was in Williams-Sonoma buying a gift for a wedding and they were selling them there.

I wish it was a 2 gallon kit, though.

I brewed for 10 years or so. I think I've made just about everything possible. Mine were 5 gallon batches.Never seen people make a good beer with the small kits, but they may have improved. If this doesn't turn out well, don't give up. They have a lot of guys on the food board brewing.

I hope wort isn't bad for an infection.

I was pouring my wort through a strainer and my bandaged left thumb got in the way and was soaked.

You really have to TRY to get an infection to ruin one. I haven't used a kit in a long time.

I love IPA's. My girl and I brewed one so hoppy that I'm the only person on earth who likes it. Success!

Well, it smells like an IPA. Now I have to wait 3-4 weeks to see if it tastes like one.

I started the fermentation process and it looks like this after 30 minutes:

Normal?

Looks right to me...let us know how the batch comes out - those kits are a great idea IMO
