Ive used Mr Beer before. The beer turns out alright. Fun project to do with pops though.

Transferred it to a dark location with the airlock.

I'll probably bottle on Jun 19th.

Does anyone make a 2 or 3 gallon kit?

1 gallon isn't a lot, but 5 gallons seems like too much for me to handle.

I don't think I've ever seen a 2/3 gallon kit. You can probably go to a site that publishes the contents of their kits (like Northern Brewer), and then do the math and order the ingredients yourself. Alternately, I suppose you could order a 5-gallon kit and just split the ingredients - though that could get tricky.

How does this work? Do you reuse other bottles from beer you already drank?

Yes, but only pop tops, not twist offs. I rinse them in water as soon as I pour a bottle. Then I clean them more thoroughly when I have 50 or so bottles by soaking in oxyclean overnight. I rinse well and then bake them in the oven at 360 for 1 hour. This acts like an autoclave and sterilizes the bottles.

Getting close. One more week. I pulled one out to check and see how it looked yesterday. A little bit of sediment at the bottom of each and they are starting to clear up.

It could be the nastiest beer I ever tasted, but I'm going to drink them all because I crafted it with my own hands.

I bought some Grolsch 4 packs and drank them all.

Ran them through the dishwasher to get the old labels off. I then sanitized all, followed by a rinse 30 minutes before I bottled it.

Tested one a few days ago.

Not as hoppy as expected. The honey (and I didn't use much) was pronounced. Carbonation was high, and the head was thick.

I did this once and never again. I had paper all over the bottles, espcially on the inside. Took about 5 times as long to get everything cleaned up.

I was going to buy the same kit. Should I add extra hops?

Also, was the honey your addition?

Mr Beer kits make around two gallons and has some pretty good recipes to get you started. Once you get started you will want to get more adventurous.

Update:

It's been bottled for two weeks. The honey accent is gone and it tastes pretty good.

However, it seems to be overcarbonated; when I open a bottle, it's like a volcano of foam erupting. Do I need to wait longer?

TIA?

I haven't home-brewed in years and years but you need at least 3 weeks sometimes 4 and then chill it overnight before drinking.

If beer is over-carbonated and you did everything right then it's not mature. It also won't taste like anything with body yet. If it tastes too light and fizzy you opened it too soon.

Is this what's happening to you? See how it changes with more time.

Carbonation

IDK. That's the tell-tale sign of improper carbonation or opening too early. I think you should wait.
