The LSU Rugby club will be playing at the 2011 USA Sevens College Rugby Championships in Philadelphia on June 4 and 5 - LINK /. They were selected because of their great rugby play, and even better college fan base - so let's live up to the hype by supporting our Tigers.

Some matches from the weekend will be televised on the following channels:
Universal Sports
Saturday June 4th: 12PM - 2PM
Sunday June 5th: 12PM - 2PM

Versus
Saturday June 4th: 2PM 4PM
Saturday June 4th: 6PM - 8PM
Sunday June 5th: 2PM - 4PM

NBC
Saturday June 4th: 4PM - 6PM
Sunday June 5th: 4PM - 6PM

LSU is slated to play the opening match against Penn State. Later in the day they play powerhouse Cal-Berkley, and conclude Saturday's matches with Ohio State. Good luck to our players.

And for those of you not familiar with rugby, Sevens is a 7-a-side version of the game, with 7 minute halves on a full sized field. It results in a fast-paced game - think track meet with tackling. As such, this is the version of rugby that will be introduced in the 2016 Olympics.

This is club, right? Not NCAA?

Doesn't LSU also have a Quidditch club team? Yeahhh, no big deal. Those dudes take it too seriously in their extra small gap polo LSU shirts they wear around campus.

Read an article a couple years back about how teams were scared and would even forfeit matches against Cal-Berkeley! With that being said, I'll try to tune in the LSU-Cal matchup because that article made them sound like some damn animals.

Cal-Berkeley is one of very few schools that offer scholarships for Rugby. Not too sure why a school would be scared & forfeit playing them.

Hopefully LSU beats them handily.

True, rugby is a club sport at LSU. However, that is not the case at all universities. Cal, for example has rugby as a varsity sport, and schools like Life University, Arkansas State, Texas A&M, UCONN, and Penn State have scholarships for rugby players.

You're retarded for comparing rugby which is a sport (there are many international professional rugby clubs) to a game where Harry Potter fans run around with a stick between their legs.

Those dudes take it too seriously

So actively training for a competitive season against other athletes is uncalled for...I see. I'm sure you know all about athletic training for pledge week, because it's just an organization and all. Wait doesn't LSU have a roleplaying society and a yarn-aholics anonymous organization...so by your logic, your greek lifestyle is the same eschelon of importance.

Because no fratstars wear extra-tight polos with multiple popped collars. And for the record I make no excuses for rugby players that exhibit the same degree of douche that plagues your greek community.

Didn't Arkansas State or somebody beat them 61-0?

Don't listen to him. I don't particularly care to watch Rugby, but it is a serious sport. Comparing the game to Quiditch is simply stupid and ignorant. I might actually watch it simply because it's LSU related and it's similar to football.

Yes. Arkansas State and Life have scholarships where they can bring in players from other rugby playing countries. Which kind of sets them apart, especially in 15-a-side rugby. Sevens on the other hand, is such a fast-paced version that in any given match the best prepared team that can execute the quickest can pull off the victory. For instance Utah beat Cal in the final at last year's tournament. But in the end it requires athleticism and skill.

That is all I am saying. Regardless of if you are a fan of rugby, check it out this weekend. I promise you it is more entertaining than baseball. Plus you get to cheer for LSU.

That's all you need to know.

From someone with plenty of experience in the "club" sports world, I can assure you that just because they're not Varsity school sponsored, that has 0 impact on how seriously the coaches and players take their sport and competition. LSU's Rugby team has a long history of excellence and victories, they should really be considered "Virtual Varsity" - not "club"

hadn't seen that article.

Plus the 2 guys mentioned in the article (not pictured) - Bobby Johns and Adam Ducoing have both been in the pool of players for the USA National Team. Definitely legit, and I look forward to cheering for them this weekend...and drunkenly heckling the opposing teams.

We'll be playing in the club rugby national championships in Denver, so I'll be recording these to watch later. Good luck LSU.
