The BCS has been undeniably kind to LSU

So speaking only as an LSU fan, and not some obnoxious self-professed "purist" who has a "love for the game" that makes you advocate a playoff, how could any LSU fan be against the BCS? LSU has arguably benefited the most from the Bowl Championship Series. It WORKS for schools like LSU, UF, OSU, USC, etc. And that's why it will never change (barring bullshite government intervention).
So, as LSU fans, can anyone make a legitimate argument against the BCS?

Just because it's been generous to us doesn't mean it's the best system. If we had a playoff then maybe Auburn in 2004 would gave had a shot (they went 14-0), or in 2003, USC and LSU could have settled everything on the field.

I don't think a playoff system is any better.
I don't want to do anything that might diminish the regular season in any way.

from a LSU perspective very good for us.
Im a fan of the bcs in general even if it had never done anything positive or negative to LSU.
In most years in football only 2-4 teams really deserve a shot at the nc. the midmajors dont unless they play 4 major schools and even then they are iffy since major schools generally play 8-10 major schools in a year. also bcs makes the regular season mean something and as far as im concerned you dont really get fricked over unless you go undefeated from a major conf and get left out. That has only happened once in the whole time. If you dont win all your games you have no right to be upset if you get fricked by the system because you didn't really get fricked by anyone but yourself because you lost a game.
all the years of the bcs and only auburn has done everything in its power to make a bcs champ game and been left out.
the only option and be ok with is a plus 1.

a plus one would have settled those things much better than a playoff would have
playoff lets in 4 undeserving teams or more depending on how many you let in.
in 03 and 04 plus 1 would be great.
05 not so much
06 yes
07 yes
08 no
09 no
10 no
so a plus one is pretty good but still not always better than the bcs currently but if something had to change i would much prefer that over a playoff with 8,16 or however many teams

a playoff system would enhance the regular season IMO

I think a small playoff would be great. Plus one is the best system because it still lets the regular season keep all its luster, which is the most exciting part and the whole point, I guess, of college football. I think 8 teams is the most they should do, or 6 with 1 and 2 getting a bye. That way teams like boise/utah/tcu will get their shot in the end

how so?
a playoff diminishes the regular season. It is more forgiven to teams that lose one or more games.
in the reg season every game matters with the bcs. if you lose you have to wait for others to drop or you get thrown into a mix where you could probably get fricked over because of that loss.
with a playoff the every game is important is gone considering a loss wouldn't kill your chances at all and would probably do very little damage to them.

boise doesnt deserve shite. its easy to get up for one or 2 games a year play nobodies and then get up for a bowl game against a team.
8 is way to many and ruins the reg season, 6 is probably just as bad.
true plus 1 is ok but as i pointed out in half the years it wouldn't have been better than what we have.

why do people put all this emphasis on the regular season? Literally every other sport (including NFL, DI-AA, DII, DII and HS fball) uses a playoff system that is extremely successful? Does any sport hand out overall regular season champion awards (no not division and conference reg. season titles, I mean can you be crowned nat. champion of the reg. season)? Plus, imagine getting an extra game or two in Death Valley.

id rather cfb different. pretty much every year now with the bcs the best team is crowned champion.
with the playoffs the hottest team wins it sometimes and others its the best.
plus i like all the other bowls its a good tradition coupled with the best way to keep the regular season to mean something.

plenty of teams win the nc with 1 loss. Having a small playoff makes more games have meaning IMO.
LSU-Auburn would have been just as big last year
LSU-Arkansas would have been way bigger
every game would still be important

So why would you have to get rid of the bowls to have a playoff? Would they be as successful? No. Would they be profitable? No one knows, but I'd bet yes.

So if you are considered the "best" team but lose in the playoffs, then aren't you, by definition, not the best anymore? I get what you are saying, just think we should have a better way to decide.
Just FYI I did an argumentative paper on playoff vs. BCS for an english class, got a 100 and actually convinced my professor that a playoff done correctly is better, but you don't want to hear my system because it'd probably just piss you off and start shite.
Posted on 5/29/11 at 2:53 am to Tigerfan7218
wouldn't piss me off but i just dont believe 8 teams are deserving every year.
Id bend as far as a plus one wouldn't upset me i just dont even think that is needed since half the time it really wouldn't have made the season any better.
fwiw i like a good debate on the issue and id agree that something had to change if an 04 auburn situation happened more often.

FYI it's not 8... But the qualifications are way different for it. It'd keep the "sanctity" of the regular season in tact for the most part and provide us a true, all inclusive champion.

teams do win it with one loss plenty of times and in our case 2 but when you lose that game you dont know if you will get right back in it.
LSU auburn wouldn't have been as big as it was last year with a playoff in place assuming the sec gets 2 teams in. Both teams were undefeated at the time and both would have known a loss wont end them.
LSU-arky would have been bigger i can agree with that part.
The only way a play off system would be even close to ok with me is if you use bcs type rankings and slot them 1-8. no conference tie ins, no auto nd clause, no limits on the conference. plus i have a feeling it would start to expand like march madness

12 or 16, either would technically work, but all of the FBS conferences get a team in. However the auto qualifiers wouldn't necessarily be the highest seeds (meaning an AQ from say the Sun Belt could be the 16(12) and have to play the top team).
Posted on 5/29/11 at 3:08 am to Tigerfan7218
that seems like way to many undeserving teams get in. yea the sunbelt guys would never win a game but they would be taken away a spot.
Posted on 5/29/11 at 3:10 am to heartbreakTiger
And that's where the issue lies. Why should we exclude teams in the FBS because they are "undeserving"?
Oh and Fresno State, the Seahawks, Butler, George Mason and VCU all say hi and give their regards. Were they undeserving too?
