Getting paint off a gun

So my sons GF dad asked him if he wanted a shotgun. He said it was a belgian browning automatic, my son says Hellz yeah. Apparently the gun came from an old man that before he died painted it, the whole thinmg camo greenish and brown. The paint on the barrel is thick as hell and I soaked some paint thinner on a couple paper towels and let it sit for 15 min but it didnt budge. Whats best to use on barrel and reciever? What about the wood?

Go to an auto paint store and get a product called Aircraft stripper. It will take everything back down to bare metal and wood. You will need to refinish the wood and probably re-blue the metal or paint with Duracoat.

You can also buy a heat gun. Looks like a hair dryer. Will blister paint, making scraping very easy.

I'll give it a try, the wood seems like its not as bad and with a little elbow grease its coming off slowly but I'll try the aircraft stripper or the heat gun. Thnx

Make damn sure you wear gloves and eye protection of you use the automotive grade stripper. It's 10 times stronger than furniture stripper and burns like hell if you get it on you.

quote:Yeah, and be careful what the gun is on when you spray it. I stripped some wheels once on the back of my dads truck and messed up the paint in the bed.

Soda Blaster
Unlike a sand blaster the soda does not remove metal it will take everything off the base metal though.
