Has anyone ever taken the train to Bama? Our group is considering it this year and wanted to get an idea of what to expect.

Long time ago I did it to Ole Miss (Memphis) and it was a lot of fun.

Nola to T-town best I rmember is a five to six hour trip. They have a bar car and you can also take an ice chest.

Thats about right. Ive taken it to Birmingham and it isnt bad at all (the worst part is the train leaves at like 7:00 am but that should get you there before kickoff (assuming 2:30)). With a group of friends I would imagine it would be an excellent time.
One problem, although minor, is to not expect to get good cell reception on the trip. The train goes through the middle of nowhere and you tend to only get reception at the stops.

Just popped over to see what was happening here. I took the train from Bham to NO over spring break and it was about 7 hours. The trains are very spacious and an easy ride. The bar car is nice with some simple food and beverages. Not to mention i believe it was $72 round trip.

I haven't taken it but know a few who have gone from bham to no...it's typically pretty packed, and with no disrespect intended, not your average middle class crowd for the most part.
I use to Amtrak from Philly to NYC and DC quite a bit and that was pretty good, but it was more of a commuter train with mostly business folk.

The concept of taking a train to a PAC-12 game is comical. Only one trip from Eugene even makes sense and thats a 6 1/2 hour ride to Seattle. LA is a 24 hour ride, SF about 17 hours, Spokane, 11 hours. I couldn't even get Amtrak to give me a schedule to Phoenix. LOL
Your schools are so close to each other it's just really different. The PAC-12 is spread out beyond belief! Didn't even consider Utah or Colorado trips.

I did the Jimmy Dumagan train trip to bama a few years ago. It was a blast on the way there, everyone was partying and drinking on the way up there. The train ride back home sucked arse because we were hungover and it took forever. I recomend doing it once.....no more than that

Come to think of it if you could ride the train up there and catch a ride back with a buddy it would be ideal. And yeah it should be around $70 round trip
