re: How deep is your secondary?

The demographic of this site or some of you fans must be 5-12.
We got a flashy new OC who will throw it on every down and return all of our true receivers. Be prepared for us to throw for 400 against you. And that's not smack talk, just the reality.
Nothing about our offense this year is close to our offense last year. All new coaches and all new scheme. You learn.

Per ESPN Pre-season rankings
14. West Virginia Mountaineers (Previous ranking: NR)
On the field, West Virginia's transition to coach-in-waiting Dana Holgorsen's spread offense seemed to be pretty seamless during the spring. Quarterback Geno Smith threw for 388 yards with four touchdowns in Friday night's spring game (albeit against the No. 2 defense), and Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey looked like big-play weapons. Whether WVU's progress carries over into the 2011 season might depend on what happens behind closed doors. Can Holgorsen coexist with Mountaineers coach Bill Stewart, who wasn't exactly ready to retire after the 2011 season? WVU must still find a No. 1 tailback and replace seven starters on defense. The Mountaineers are going to score a ton of points on offense with Holgorsen at the controls, which will probably be enough to send Stewart out with a Big East title.

From that comment, I bet you are closer to those numbers. Look, this is big boy football, and our secondary is really good. We have holes, but that ain't one. Your Offense may be improved, but it ain't going to throw for 400. You need to concentrate on running the ball. If you throw on every down, you will not like the result.

Reality is WVU has the honor of being Miles 31st OOC victim, moving his record 31-1.

You had 119 passing yards last year.

Do I think the WV can beat LSU yes they can. Do I think WVU can beat LSU if they throw 60 times. No they can't. It is not a knock on WVU, but what coach in their right mind would want to go against our d backs for an entire game especially when our LB's and D-line lost their best players. I know PP7 was the best player on the field, but we had some solid players besides him in the secondary. I would give it a steady dose of running and try to wear down LSU's undersized D-Line -the freak.

we gave up 400 to unc in a blowout. they started throwing the ball late in the 4th when we went to prevent with backups on the field. basically, we took our foot off the pedal too soon.
not even ark broke 400 on us last year and that is with a passing offense that will most assuredly equal or better holgerson's this season. and ark has 10 times the talent on offense that wvu does. giving up big passing yards is something that probably isn't going to happen.
now, last season has nothing to do with this season but, keep in mind lsu's offense was ATROCIOUS last year keeping the defense on the field most of the game. given that, those numbers above are ASTONISHING.
wvu can certainly beat lsu but, it probably won't happen through the air. highly, highly unlikely

Actually it's not. Holgerson's run/pass ratio at both UH and OSU were more reasonable than you realize. His biggest win at UH was against TT in 2009. 58 passes. 36 runs. OSU vs TA&M. 42 passes. 26 runs. Bryce Bell and Kendall Hunter were both very good, and not neglected of carries.
Brandon Weeden only had over 400 yards 3 times last season, and honestly, your guy isn't close to the passer that either Weeden or Case Kennum is.

Except the guy throwing the ball.

and we are more talented than those stops.
Kendall Hunter (4th rnd), Justin Blackmon (heisman candidate), and Brandon Weeden were his primary skill guys. You are of the opinion that your skill guys are better than them?

You try to throw 400 against us and our Defense will outscore your offense.

Just because you put 84 points in your Spring game doesn't mean you'll do it against LSU's defense.
We all know you got a new OC. But you've got the same players and so do we.

look, we know about Dana. wanted him to be our new OC (at least me and a few others did). but we got a whole bunch of badasses back there in the secondary, and the incoming youngins ain't even had a chance to bask in the glow that is Ron Cooper's tutelage. 400 yds my arse.
