Is there still a Commodore Hotel in Gtown? Used to hit up a little hole in the wall a block west of it.. Can't remember the name....

Geaux to The Spot on the sea wall. Great views, cold beer very good food. Owner is an LSU grad and his dad is a big LSU fan too. Get the "hub caps" they are like fried sliced pickles but are jalepinos instead. Good variety of choices on food but it has a good casual atmosphere and the best views of the water.

The Spot- great atmosphere, decent food (compared to how we are spoiled from Louisiana)

You are right Duck. I should have said good food for Texas My wife and I laugh all the time about the differences between Texas and Louisiana food experiences. I just don't want to geaux out, I want to feel the meal.

CAfe Michael Burger. Is a good place for burgers West side of island past Seawall.

FishTales. Just a Landry's Fertitta chain place, BUT the Coconut Crusted Mahi-Mahi is the shite.

Mexican: Not much believe it or not. Two tiny, local joints were my favorite, Taqueria Juarez and La Estacion. Both on the East end by the hospital.

Best food: Rudy and Pacos (S. American), Sky Bar (sushi), Saltwater grill, and M&M ("refined" southern food) are all very good.

Cafe Michael Burger (my favorite) or The Spot are best burgers.

Millers Landing on the Seawall is a really good family cafe. A local favorite. Get fried shrimp or Country fried steak.

olympia cafe is good greek food.

Bennos is pretty good cajun.

And there is a place called Clary's on Teichman rd. (right after crossing the causeway). It is great atmosphere on the bayou, white glove service, and reasonably priced for steaks, seafood, and the best gumbo on the island. But you may have to call ahead.

Everything else is owned by Tilman Frititta (Landrys).

Coomodore is still there. Drawing a blank on your spot, tho.

Second the Spot, watched the Auburn-LSU game there last year.

for Mex not Texmex I will add Gorditas on Seawall east of the Galvez Hotel and downtown a great white table cloth type of place Paco and Tony's I believe. Good jazz club diagonally across the street from it too.

Rudy and Pacos. Best food on the island, IMO.

Clary's. Excellent

Benno's. Really good

Gaido's. A Galveston staple, been there for years great seafood. If in the evening try and get in their private club in the back of the restaurant. Me sister is a member!
