Just got a message from a WLF agent saying it will start opening immediately. People that have moveable camps in that floodway need to go asap. Most people thought they would have another week to prepare and at this poing its not looking like it.

Biologist does not equal agent.

Aren't they afraid opening the spillway could destroy the control structure?

So you think they dont have access to the same information as an agent. Dont believe it if you dont want to I could care less. Just passing on info. for people if they have camps there as they may to check on it with WLF head quarters. If it turns out not to be true then great but if it is then im sure people would like to know.

This is the text he received from his superior, take it for what its worth:

"All,

Just received word that the Morganza floodway will be opened immediately. All PLBs are to be standing by and ready to respond if needed. Those of you with immobilization equipment – make sure your kits are supplied and ready to go. "

Western Terrebonne is greatly affected by the Atchafalaya River.

I think I heard something about the Miss River jumping and changing course and not being able to shut 'em back but it was just casually mentioned.

Friend drove on the spillway yesterday and he said there is no water in the forebay yet. So opening it now would be pointless.

Not really on topic with this thread, but a good friend of mine lives in Monterey and said she is having to move out of her home for fear of flooding. Anyone know anything about it?

My dad & brother have a camp on the Red River north of Simmesport ... it had 8 - 10 feet of water in the 1973 flood per the previous owner.

They're leaving in the am with 4 trucks/trailers to get everything out. They've got flood insurance and all but it'll be easier ... Service Master is lined up already as are contractors to start the rebuilding/fixing up.

Sad to see my dad work and save money to buy something they'll enjoy and have it in the way of this ... of course it's NOT their home but still.
