World War Z is one of the most fun novels I've ever read.
Sure, it ain't McCarthy, but it's very well written and gripping.

I'm sure it is, just seem like the whole zombie thing is getting played out by now.

Agreed with the book being a really fun read. Looking forward to this potential movie.

no zombies in that movie, but yeah, zombies and vampires, both getting old.
I'm sure I missed some but this is going back maybe 9 years:
28 days later
house of the dead
dawn of the dead
shaun of the dead
28 weeks later
I am legend
planet terror
day of the dead
house of the damned
resident evil
zombieland
to come:
pride and prejudice and zombies
world war z

I thought it was overrated. Cool concept though, and well-written. Loved the part (obviously) about the one chick who crash-landed in the Atchafalaya Basin. That was cool. I hope that makes it into the movie. And obviously people want to see Yonkers play out on a movie screen.

Not really zombies. More vampire-y.

That's a pretty solid list of movies, zombie or not.

There's only a handful of stories from the book that are memorable.
I'd still be surprised if Pitt stays with the project.

WWZ was a great novel. Really neat how it explained the zombie invasion, yet told it in almost a Stephen Ambrose style, as if it was wriiten by a real historian. The blind dude with the Shaolin Spade kicked arse.

Yeah, think I want to read it again now.

It was overhyped to me, so I had too high of hopes going into it. It was still good, and I enjoyed it. But it wasn't as good as I had hoped it would be. This is a good explanation to my feelings...I like it, but:

My favorite stories were the one about the soldier trying to blow up the mountain pass in Tibet (I think that's where it was) and the Japanese submarine commander.
Lots of great ones though.

Memorable stories I'd love to see get some screen time. . .
***Potential Spoilers***
The captain of an advanced Chinese ICBM-armed nuclear submarine deserting and running away from port with his crew and their families inside of the submarine and hiding in the Pacific.
Blind Japanese gardener exiling himself in the mountains, then meeting the Otaku kid.
Yonkers - The entire battle needs to be seen.
Pilot crashing in the middle of a heavily infested zone in Louisiana.
North Korea - not sure they can do much with it as the book only briefly mentioned it but I love the idea of the entire country of North Korea going underground to hide from the zombies.
General Raj-Singh managing to manually detonate the C-4 charges sealing off the mountain pass in India.
European castles being retrofitted to survive the zombie invasion.
The sewers under Paris
Cuba being invaded by American boat people.
No idea why I remember as much as I do about the story when other people say it's unmemorable but that's just off the top of my head.

I felt the novel had too broad of a focus and I stopped about halfway (I know, I'm terrible). Though I'm probably going to give it another shot this summer

I agree. With the novel being too broad, I wonder if the film's plot will be entirely new. There were no memorable characters in the book, in fact, I believe they were all flat.

i really hope they do a good job with this book. but i wont have high hopes for it because it'll be hard without a central cast.
at the very least i hope they shoot the basin scene in the actual basin.
