High OBP, high slugging, fantastic fielder, stole around 15 bases on average, great arm.
Yaz is a great one but in the 5 tools comparison he is in the next tier compared to a Mays, Mantle, Clemente type.
He really was not fast at all and doesnt match up even close in power numbers.

Whatever, he still had speed. I guess I was wrong in my quick ball park average. Sorry.

Yaz and Clemente are actually very similar numbers wise. Clemente averaged a slightly better WAR, but he didn't play when he was older (because of a courageous act) and he didn't have the 10 and 12 WAR season that Yaz did.

a little bit off? you almost triped his yearly production
he wasn't close to a prime bonds/griffey/mantle/mays/arod as a 5 tool player

7.8 multiplied by 3 = 15? As for the 20, I was looking at someone else's fangraph because I forgot the info. I'm not saying he's number 1, but Yaz is top 10 all time for 5 tools. As great as A-Rod and Griffey were/are, they've never had a better season than Yaz's 67. Bond's numbers at the end of his career were inflated by steroids anyways.

Youre just reading a stat book man. I watched them play and Yaz was a favorite of mine. He did what he could with the physical tools he had but was no where near the all round talent that Clemente and the others had. Yaz was slow but was a good baserunner. He wasnt a great fielder but learned how to play the monster as well as anyone. He was very patient at the plate and was a very good hitter. He won the Triple Crown in a year that no one was hitting. I think he hit about 300 that year.
Mays, Mantle, Clemente: These guys were all round baseball animals. Like I said a different tier of player.

I agree with this. BUT YAZ was a 5 star superstar in HIS era.
HELLI can't believe that one of the TOP 5 players of ALL-TIME has NOT been mentioned.
LOU GERHIG!!!!!!!!!!!!

5-tool is rare; most of the greats had at least one glaring weakness often two. It's no coincidence that the best place to look for 5-tool players is center field. You can't hide their arm or lack of speed.
1. Mays - he's the goat of a 5-tool player.
2. Mickey - “if 40/40 was so impressive, i’d have done it every year.”
3. Duke - a power hitter, hit for average, good speed and an outstanding throwing arm in the outfield. In discussing Snider's fielding, Hall of Famer Ralph Kiner once noted, "I'd say Duke covers more ground, wastes less motion, and is more consistent than anyone since DiMaggio."
4. Junior (before he became Griffey) - still remember him scoring from first. 1995 ALDS
5. Jackie - when I think of a 5-tool player I think of "how they played the game" and I think first of Jackie Robinson...all around athlete.

1) you initially said 20
2) it's 7.3
griffey's 96, 97, 98, and 99 are all as good as yaz's 67
arod's 96 and 07 laugh at yaz's 67. he also had 98, 00, 01, 02, 03, and 05 were all as good

In fairness though its two different eras. In 67-68 you had to be a man to hit one out. There were no flick-of-the-wrist opposite field home runs during those years. Power numbers from Griffey and ARods eras are all relevant. Mays and Mantle in Griffeys era would have put up huge numbers.

yaz didn't even lead the league in homers that year
arod did
arod did

A-Rod's OBP was lower and his slugging higher. He didn't have a insane fielding year however. It's not like these guys are chopped liver, and were obviously better than Yaz overall, but that one season he had was epic.
A-Rod's 07 was fueld by steroids anyways.

Yaz's was still better.

Rhyno was a hell of a 2nd baseman, but he doesn't belong in this discussion.

Shouldn't Joe D be somewhere on your list? Do you think Kiner would have rated him higher than Snyder?

Six stolen bases was his career high. And based on what I've seen and read about him, he was an average fielder.

A name I haven't seen mentioned is Kirby Puckett. I wouldn't have him in my top 10 list, but he would certainly make top 15.

AGREED!!! Good ball player. BUT Sanberg was just as good as Puckett.
