let's not start sucking each other's dicks just yet. he still gave up 3 runs to surrender the lead. its encouraging but i wouldn't say he's "back"

Let's be real here. He came in with bases loaded and no outs. That pretty much means two runs are going to score. That basehit looked like the team wasn't in DP depth. If they would have been then it is a different story.

He nailed them in the 9th. The kid is back. I'm telling you. His confidence is there and the teams confidence in him is there. This team is due for a stretch run.

He gave up one solid hit....sounds like he pitched well to me, hopefully he can continue to be nails for us.....as good as he was as a freshmen, he gave up hits like that back then. He was pretty money at minimizing damage though

Do it in the SEC. I posted this before, but will do it one more time. Talked to the dad of a Florida pitcher during the Florida Friday night game. He said the word has gotten out on Ott in the SEC. Sit back and he can't throw strikes. He'll get into a bad count and feed you a fastball. I thought he was full of shite until Florida did exactly what he said.

I think we are getting a little bit ahead of ourselves here. I'm keeping the koolaid locked up in the basement pantry for now.

so did Texas not have any film of Matty Ott in his freshman season? SEC must have some crappy coaches, along with Rice and Virginia

I HOPE you are right. Unfortunately, this team will need a bit more than a "stretch run" to even think about making it to the SEC tournement...I sure as hell hope they do, but damn it's gonna be tough at this point....that being said, no mattter what happens the rest of this year, I support our coach and know he'll turn it around.....

In all fairness he had much better control his freshman year. Back then he didn't just throw strikes, he located them all low in the zone and was just nasty.

Lets hope. For the last 2 years he's had flashes, but we need several games in a row.

He came in with the bases loaded an no outs. I know it's a closer's job to shut the other team down. But it's asking a lot of a kid to come in under those circumstances and not allow any runs.

And, after we regained the lead in the 8th, he DID shut them down in the 9th.

Happy birthday Matty.

Correct. The "book on Ott" would not have applied in his freshman year. He was almost always working ahead in the count which allowed him to pitch on the corners with his fastball or throw the his slider.

Ott hasn't regained that form, but his ERA is in the 3s. And, his last few outings have been good. Last night he was put into an impossible situation. But, he got a strikeout and and then followed that up by getting a ground ball. The ball found a hole, but it could have resulted in a double play as well if it's a few feet either way. That's baseball.

But, it shows that they weren't simply teeing off on Ott. He seems to have much better command than he did during his rough spots this year.

People who are expecting Ott to perform at the level he did as a freshman are going to be disappointed most likely. But, he is our best option in the pen to close a game IMO.

His mechanics and feel for the mound were much better last night than they have been. If he is comfortable and loose, he keeps the ball down. If he is tight, the pitches float up and become HR derby pitches.

bullshite. That's his job and he's been doing nothing but that for 3 years now. Ricky Vaugn don't give up shite when he comes in.
