What happened to it? Went there about 4 years ago and had a good time. Some huge gators there. Did they close that place up to build some road? I heard something about that.

The operators created their swamp tour setup by closing floodgates and flooding someone else's property. The Iberville Parish government finally decided to operate the floodgates for the purposes that they were built. The resulting lower water levels meant the swamp tours could no longer operate at most times of the year.

so it closed? I assume the operators had to harvest all the gators cause they were so use to humans?

Those gates had been closed for years, long before Bonifay and Ragland opened their swamp tour business.
The owners of the swamp tours refused to compromise with the landowners. The landowners agreed to close the gates for six months (Oct. through Mar. I believe) and open them for six months. The swamp tour operators wanted the gates closed year-round; they ended up with nothing, including their business. Seasonal flooding/drying makes for a healthier swamp, but I guess these "environmentalists" let profit get in the way of reason.

The flood gates are what caused the problem in the first place. Closing them stopped the natural flow of water and caused the lake to silt up. Now when the gates are opened there is no lake. You can ride a 4 wheeler across the Spanish Lake right now. All the bayous around it are dry too.
Yes, it is shut down because the locks stay open and the swamp and bayous have drained. No where for run their boat. They pretty much have given up. The land is for sale right now.

What I always thought was comical was their pleas for conserving and saving "nature" when their water usage and alteration of said watershed - was far from natural.

I used to enjoy taking my kids canoeing out there.
They used to rent canoes at that little shack by the boat ramp.
I loved going back there to the flats.
What those two homos did to the area is disgusting, much like their sexual preferences.

I still have my miss earline's alligator bayou coozy, drank a few worm buckets, long necks, played Tammy/HankPatsy on the juke box and shot a few games of pool there ;) Good times and put my dollar bills on the ceiling - used to joke that that was Miss Earline's retirement fund
