I've always shot righty. I found out a while ago that I'm right side dominant in everything but my eye. I'm left eye dominant. I've always done fine shooting rifles and my bow as I close my left eye to shoot. Handguns I have always been fine with, I just aim with my left eye and position it in line with my left eye but still right-handed.

My problem here is with shotguns, as you keep both eyes open and it's impossible to truly aim with your left eye shooting from your right side. So I was wondering if it's too late to try and learn to shoot left-handed. I have been shooting for about 6 years usually get a solid month worth of hunting throughout the year. So the real question is how hard do you think it would be, and if it's not too late.

Also curious if there are any cross-dominant shooters here.

Here. Between scopes, shotguns and pistols, I don't have any trouble was when shooting with iron sights at 200 yards or more.

I'm righthanded but shoot left handed long guns. Pistols I position myself looking down the sites with my left eye (probably why I suck at shooting pistols), I shoot my bow right handed because thats all I had to learn on growing up. With regards to your shotgun question, I shoot lefthanded and close my right eye. My coach tried to teach me how to shoot with both eyes open but I missed everytime. He finally gave up and said if I could hit it then by God hit it. I can also shoot longguns righthanded, but it feels awkward.

I am, over the years I have learned to adjust. I hit what I shoot at.

I shoot cross-dominant, but have pretty much no issue (left eye dominant, but shoot right).

When shooting long guns I have to close my left eye when shooting irons, though I'm getting closer to not having to.

The only optic I use is a red dot on my AR and I find this works GREAT for cross dominant shooters. If you don't mind putting a red dot on a shotgun, you might want to give it a try, it really does work wonders.

No its not. This is how I shoot a shotgun. Just takes practice. Luckily I figured it out when I was about 15 yrs old so I've had lots of practice.

My nephew had this problem but shooting lefty solved it. If you close one eye shooting scatter guns and it works then just keep on going.

The issue with closing one eye while shotgunning is depth perception, that is why everyone teaches to keep both eyes on the target.

I know this isn't the topic but..
I can and do shoot from both sides and with either hand, just something I always did.
Being able to shoot from both sides seems like a good idea to me, you never know when or why you may need the skill.

I do fine shooting righty, there are just some times where I can tell I aim behind or ahead of the bird and if I had it lefty it would have been right on. I don't want to use a red dot, and I don't want to close eyes. I think I'm just going to try lefty next time I'm out.

Dang, didn't realize I had interacted that much! I have been around a while in my defense.

My 7 yo is rh but left eye dominant. Shoots left handed. I quit trying to make him shoot right, I mean wrong. Awe y'all get it.

Just switch. You need to keep both eyes open whenever you shoot - it helps your coordination & balance in general.

Then you have 70 or so more to go. Plenty of time to re-learn.

Just my opinion.

I am to a degree. I am right eye dominant. I shoot right handed with handgun. I really prefer to shoot left handed with a rifle or shotgun however, I can also just as easily shoot them right handed. I am equally accurate either way. I really like shooting a pump action shotgun (870)left handed. To me it is easier to operate that way.

My advice is to try it and see how you like it.
