Update: what do yall think of this?

Well apparently the owner saw this thread and read the whole thing. Figured out who I was and looked up my bill in their machine and saw the table I was at. Looked up the number that made the reservation and called them to ask about the thread/complaints and basically ask if they thought the same way because i bashed the hell out of the place apparently (along with our waiter). My friend loves the place so he said he thought everything was great. The owner then asked him for my phone number so he could talk to me. He gave it to him but the owner never called.

Thoughts?

owner trying to rectify the situation? or kinda weird to go that out of his way for 1 customer?

Friends were in town and wanted to go there. Ive been before and its definitely not my first choice for a steak in BR. I gotta say I dont think I will ever be back at the place (at least not by choice). The tables look like you are at a picnic at the local park with the worst table cloths known to man. The plates that the steaks are brought out in look like they were bought at the dollar store.

We had the same waiter we had about 6 months ago and he kept getting shite wrong exactly like last time. I am talking about simple stuff like who gets what drinks and food and simply just forgetting drinks and crap.

I got the ribeye and for $44 the cut of meat does not match up to the price. The bottle of red wine I ordered was cold. Almost like they took it out of the fridge.

The shitty thing is that I really didnt want to go but simply went because good friends were in town. $105 lesson learned.

A bunch of beers at the Bulldog after though was a good recovery

Doe's Eat Place

you should manage your expectations upon entering this eatery........

its a niche' restrnt.....known for gigantic steaks. 1st one was in greenville (very small town with no other options), then in Little Rock (again, at the time....no other real options).

if you want a 2-3-4lb steak wearing your cutoff shorts and camo hat, go here.....have some tamales.....otherwise, if you are in the mood for a nice dinner - go somehwere else......

managing expectations is the key.

I left Baton Rouge a year ago, and Doe's was one of my favorite places to visit. It must've gone downhill recently. The steaks, appetizers, and tamales were always top notch. The bonus there was a double whiskey served in a 24oz styrofoam cup. I hate to hear of last night's troubles.

It's $22/pound with a side of fresh cut fries.

I don't find this to be unreasonable at all. Checking Sullivan's menu, a 16 oz ribeye will set you back $36, or a 22 oz bone-in is $38 (almost $28/lb).

I like Doe's for what it is...a pretty good casual steakhouse. If the lady and I don't feel like dressing up we can go and split a porterhouse and have a few beers, and I'm not sure that my bill even breaks $100.

People seem to either love or hate the place, though.

I have not been in a LONG time. I did not enjoy the tamales, but I had a medium-rare steak and some crabmeat bisque and they were fine. It isn't anything Flemming's and Ruth's have given me, but it is a different price range.

Sucks to hear Doe's might have lowered in quality. I remember me and my dad really enjoying it for what it was.

I've never been to the Doe's in BR. But if you went into the original Greenville Doe's experience expecting fine dining and world class service in a clean, modern environment you did it wrong.

Went twice.

First time was out of this world. Had the 2 1/2 pd porterhouse. Definitely lived up to the price.

I don't mind the tablecloth setting as long as the food is good. It's certainly not Ruth Chris atmosphere.

However, the second time I went was wayyy disappointed. Steak was tough, not worth the price.

Both times I had a douchey waiter that sucked. Probably the same guy you had.

It's really not. They aren't competitors.

my bill was $86 for a steak and a bottle of wine. The wine was 35 so almost 50 bucks just for a steak. That is Ruths prices.

Yep. I think you have to understand what Doe's is all about. And the BR Doe's may be terrible for all I know. But to me the Greenville Doe's experience is wagging in a handle of Charter, a couple magnums of red, dodging the kitchen staff as you find your way to a table that sits on a 30 deg slope, and listening to the hum of a half dozen overworked window units as you're devouring mass quantities of bloody red meat, butter drenched BBQ shrimp, and hot tamales. If your driver is game and not too worn out from rolling your over-served arse out of the Eat place, you can possibly run by the casino before hitting the delta and the blaring 1 1/2 hour session of high volumn white folk music as you meander toward the house.

Some folks expectations are too high to enjoy the finer things in life.

These same folk have never pulled Goat Walk white perch up off of a jig pole either. I once entertained an entire box of Franzia at the Greenville location and managed the kitchen operations all in one fail swoop.
