Saints slapped with lawsuit over fleur-de-lis logo and name

It is a complaint for damages, declaratory and injunctive relief for the misappropriation of the fleur-de-lis. A ruling is still pending. In other words, Messier is claiming that he and his family are the rightful owners of the team logo we have come to know and love as Saints fans. You might think I'm kidding...but I'm not.

How can he own the fleur de lis? It has been around since at least the 11th century.

Some say that Kings from France have traced the history back to King Clovis I in 405 A.D.
I don't think this guys has a chance in hell. Trademarks don't really pass down through family lines and he doesn't really show that his "Founding Family" was in continuous use of the fleur de lis, the term "New Orleans", or the term "Saints."
This reeks of a guy (and maybe his lawyer) hoping for a quick payoff. I hope the suit is ruled frivolous and he's forced to pay the attorney fees for the other parties.
