I would have had Pat Peterson on my list. Without question, the SEC has put out some players. Wow!

Yeah, I think Peterson and Dorsey, possibly Faneca, too, should be on that list; at least ahead of Wilbur Marshall. Heck, I might even put Wendel Davis, Michael Brooks and Bradie James ahead of him. Not 100% on Derrick Brooks and Patrick Willis, either, though they're definitely at that level where it's nitpicking to distinguish between greats.
quote:Very true, especially when you start thinking about the kind of players that got left off the list: Mark Ingram, Bradie James, Emmitt Smith, Dalton Hilliard, John Henderson, Jamal Lewis, Jevon Kearse, the entire '92 Bama secondary (if not defense), Michael Oher . . . the list goes on and on with really, REALLY great players.

Good grief, is that ever a stout list.
PP7, Glenn Dorsey, and Josh Reed are the other LSU players who pop to my mind as possibly being deserving of being on that list. I initially thought Dorsey over Pollack, but I forgot that Pollack was a 3 time AA. Reed and PP7 both left a year early, but without looking back at the list, I am struggling to remember ANY WR or DB on the list. I really like that K. Faulk is on there. Incredible versatility and stats, yet often underappreciated.

... and yet David Pollack is on the list.
If Kearse was a 10/Pollack was a 4.

Tebow at 2 is dumb, no way he was better than Bo
Pollack being 9 is retarded
sCam Newton should be nowhere near the list, neither should McFadden

This is talking about when they played in college. The only thing missing from Pollack trophy case as a defensive end is the Heisman which we know may never happen. The dude was an animal in college. Just because he don't turn out as a pro doesn't mean he shouldn't be on this list.
Bo Jackson doesn't have the hardware that Tebow has. Bo was the better athlete and prob better player but has no national championships... Tebow has 2.
Shaun Alexander ahead of Faulk is a joke.

how in the hell did faulk make it?
some heisman running backs were left out and faulk made it?
he wasn't even the best running back at lsu since 1980.

Yeah, but his motor never stopped running.

quote:Yes, he was. He was more productive for more games than anyone else. That's why he holds all those records despite not having current LSU-level talent around him and sharing a backfield with the likes of Rondell Mealey, Cecil Collins (briefly) and Kendall Cleveland (Faulk's freshman year). Nobody in LSU's history save Hilliard, Alexander and possibly Cannon are even close to what Faulk did at LSU (Cannon is only questionable due to the difficulties in comparing vastly different eras).

Anyone that says Faulk wasn't the best at LSU since 1980 must have been in pampers when he played. He was a beast and would be the SEC career rushing leader if not for a high ankle sprain his last year.
This list is obviuosly based on college production, so I don't see how they can leave Josh Reed off.

i was in school when hilliard played and faulk was not as good as dalton.
say what you want.

Walker, Jackson and Tebow are basically indisputable.
If somebody put you on the spot, and you had to name the greatest in SEC history in 0.5 seconds without giving it any thought, I think most SEC fans (who aren't complete homers) would spit out one of these names.
For all others, you could argue that somebody else deserves to be on the list.

+1
Faulk was great, but Dalton was in a class of his own. I've still never seen another back w/ moves like that.

Wayne Madkin was probably the best QB in the SEC during the 1990s. Him not being on the list is a crying shame that screams racism.

When do they post about WRs & Defense?

To the poster who questions Wilbur Marshall's place on the list, I am curious if you saw him play college? this is not a shot by any means - opinions can vary - but Marshall was a force and I certainly have no problem with where he is ranked.
Great post above saying that Walker, Tebow, and Jackson are really the only three who are beyond question on this list. If there is a 4th no brainer, I think it's probably Peyton Manning, but he has no hardware, although he should have taken home the Heisman.

Regarding Faulk...
He holds the record for all purpose yards in the SEC.
That my friend is why he is (rightfully) on the list...

quote:I watched both of them play their entire careers at LSU, and was lobbying for Dalton's Heisman in his freshman year. But Faulk was simply more productive and all around better. He was as good as or better as a runner, better as a receiver out of the backfield, and more dangerous as a kick returner. Dalton is one my all time faves, as is Alexander the Great, but Faulk was simply better.

Hilliard was stronger (imo), but even though he had outstanding speed, moves and vision, they weren't as good as Faulk's.
