Get the longest rod you can find....... seriously
You probably wont catch shite (just being honest) so just get the longest rod within your budget

i would get a spinning combo for around 70 - 80 bucks with a 7' rod. i have a pfluger president combo from academy for around 80 bucks i use for saltwater.
i lived in pensacola for three years and i have a spot for you to wade fish. mapquest emerald sound drive. it's right past the navarre zoo in the back of a neighborhood. park at the end of there and you will see the santa rosa sound. wade out to your waist and find the fish. there are specks, reds, drum, ladyfish and a few macks. it's very grassy there so keep that in mind. we fish bottom with live or deal shrimp. we also used top water lures, gold spoons and plastic cocahoes. i've caught VERY nice reds in that area and nice sized trout.
also, there are plenty of stingrays in the area, so shuffle and slide your feet!
let me know if you need any more info

Forget about a stupid surf rod. Buy a kayak and then buy a 7 foot heavy action rod with a shimano spheros 8000 reel or something similar within your budget. This will handle anything from spanish mackeral to cobia. You're welcome.

I agree with the other posters, nab a 7' rod combo that is in your budget. That size is nice since you can use it for various applications. The surf rods are too big for anything besides fishing from shore and are also a pain to store since they tend to eat up a lot of space.
