True Freshmen Playing Time (Baseball)

Lots of people, including myself, are excited about JaCoby Jones and Spencer Ware. Another highly touted HS senior may make his debut next season. Evan Powell from Sam Houston has been committed for a while. If he makes it to campus will he see significant ABs? Everything I've read has him moving to catcher. I don't think it would be to hard to take some time from Ross.

Hell, Snikeris is slowly taking AB's from Ross (IMHO)

I was trying to be easy on Ross. It's a long season

Like Les, Paul Mainieri doesn't play Freshmen.....
I do like the young guys on the team. JaCoby Jones is playing well. .536 BA is unreal. Ross and Snikeris are both playing well behind the plate.
This is a fun team to watch.

meh. not so much. However they are freshman and I do believe they'll be good before long.

Ross is absolutely stout defensively. Kids got a cannon. He'll learn to hit and be the starter long term.

Definitely want to see more plate production from the catcher position. Neither Ross or Snikeris have an XBH yet this year. I guess we could afford one poor bat on the team with how everyone else has been hitting especially if it means a good guy behind the plate, but our lineup would be an absolute nightmare all the way through if Ross or Snikeris became forces at the plate.
JaCoby Jones has been more than advertised. Dude is hitting for a higher average this year so far than he did in high school (still very early on, but 9 games into the season impressive nonetheless).
Our lineup looks even that much better when you have guys like Spencer Ware (OF) or Mike Lowery (INF) that are able to come off the bench and give you production at the plate.

Will his hitting come around fast enough to keep a major league draft prospect bat on the bench? Has anyone here seen Evan Powell play in person?

Sinkeris is Jr. He is a JUCO transfer

I played against Evan Powell my senior year of High School at the Sam Houston baseball tournament. He went 4-4 with two dingers. Don't really remember his other two at bats. He had a Major League swing when he was a freshman. The kid is good

Mr. Powell, if your son is good enough, he will be allowed to play. There is no need to come on here trying to convince everyone how good your son is at baseball.

I would rather a great defensive player at C then a player who is so so defensively and can hit.

Your original question is impossible to answer. Who knows if a guy in high school will translate to college ball. Who knows if he can even win a spot. Or if he even makes it here with the draft.
Ross will be fine I think. Gibbs sucks his first year too. Isn't Eades little brother a catcher recruit!

Agree, no need for another Cresse behind the plate. Learn to play 1st or DH.

Maneri doesn't play freshman? I remember 4 freshmen being pretty important and playing a lot when we last won it all
Posted on 3/3/11 at 9:21 pm to LSU=Wow!
I think that was sarcasm about him not playing freshman.

Ha Ha. I know, right. I want the kid to be the next Buster Posey just because I went to the same high school 10 years ago. Anyway nothing wrong with pulling for a future tiger.
