Why aren't the Hornets trying to move West?

With all this talk about not getting anything in return for CP3... What about the fact that West can opt out of his contract after this year? He likely will opt out and should if the Hornets aren't willing to pay him what he is worth.

He is a top 10 PF in the league that has averaged right around 20 and 8 over the last 5 years. He should and will want a contract much like Carlos Boozer at 14-15 mil per.

If the Hornets aren't willing to re-sign him for that then they should put him on the trading block.

Guess they still have some hope to work something out with him.

Didn't say that. There is a lot out there saying he will opt out and that the Hornet and West aren't on the same page with an extension.

Not saying I believe everything that is out there but this for sure isn't the only source saying this.

West Likely to opt out

Don't think they are trying to sign CP3 either? and the majority on here are saying trade him now.

I am sure they are offering market value. West is probably trying to get them to overpay. He definitely has been underpaid the last several years.

Trading west now all but guarantees Paul leaving IMO. Unless we can get someone in return who is better than west (which isn't likely) cp is 100% gone imo. He's the second best player on our team and the leading scorer. Trading him will likely make our team worse in the short run and long term when cp has even less of a reason to stay.

Believe me I know the Hornets would not be as good without West. I also agree that if he is gone then CP3 is gone too unless they bring in some big time help.

But you go look back at the Labron thing. Do you let your player go and get absolutely nothing in return?

Because people are lazy and make assumptions based on headlines rather than taking the time to figure something out. Demps did a ticket holder dinner last night or maybe it was the night before. Here's a good break down of the West situation.

quote:

David West Contract: Dell explained that David’s declining contract value combined with rules governing extensions essentially made any extension unfair to David. David has expressed happiness with New Orleans. Dell hesitated to say it would be easy to sign him, saying that nothing is easy, but he indicated that both parties would like a deal to be worked out here.

LINK

The rumors are that we're willing to give him something like 4/$40 which is a fair number for all sides and couldn't be offered unless he opts out. The only danger is if someone takes a run at him and over pays. If he only gets fair offers from other teams he'll stay.

Everyone brings up the lebron situation but I really feel that it doesn't matter if we try to keep them and they both leave anyway. Sure something is better than nothing but unless we somehow get 1 superstar and one all-star in return fan interest will hit rock bottom and the team will surely leave. I just don't see us getting the right pieces in return to not only win now but also keep interest in the team up. Who cares what we get for west and Paul if the team leaves town in 2 or 3 years anyway.

The thing is if they overpay too much then they hurt the teams flexibility to continue to improve. Also a big thing that will keep Paul in NOLA.

Just a question here:

But would anyone be willing to move West for Al Jefferson?

Chad Ford says the Jazz are ready to blow it up and specifically want to get under the luxury tax. A West deal would do that for them and also lock us in with Jefferson for the next few years

Send his arse to the Bobcats for Wallace... they are supposedly shopping him hard.

Hawks are listening to offers for Josh Smith too

Paul is going to leave. That much should be obvious considering everything that has happened since last season ended. The Hornets should make moves to maximize their assets now.

I don't think they will. If West gets $15 million per year thrown at him I think it's a Scott Fujita situation. You understand it's his last pay day, wish him well and scramble to find a replacement.

We aren't trading CP3, not with all the BS benchmark and keeping fans nonsense going on. If CP3 goes, it'll be in the offseason of 2012, and we'll hopefully get to do a sign and trade for our troubles.

The Knicks just traded for someone they could've signed in a few months. We'll get something decent. Either way.

I'm sick of all this talk. Focus on the here and now. We aren't trading CP3 unless a Godfather offer is given to us. And that certainly don't look to be happening this deadline.

I never said trade Paul. My post was in response to someone saying that West couldn't be traded due to the threat of Paul leaving.

Worth noting that Fujita also got his ring before leaving for the money. So in that case, I hope it's exactly like a Scott Fujita thing. Though I think if we win the Finals, CP3 and West won't be going anywhere.
