Junk Silver "investing" for economic collapse

If one were to believe that the USA was eventually going to financially/socially/govermentally collapse (the cause doesnt matter - multiple radioactive bombs or whatever) - would "junk" silver be a good investment? It would seem that small demoniations of high percentage silver - 90% dimes and quarters etc., would be a good thing to have (along with guns and food). I am, of course, speaking of havig the actual coins and not a paper investment in a mining company.

I read some doomer type boards and those thinking about barter are big into junk silver. The upside is the small denominations and it's difficult to fake. Gold coins aren't going to work if you need bread. I think silver rounds may do the trick in a collapse, but even those denominations may be too large for various transactions. The only real downside I see is that if things are that bad, even junk silver might have little value. I assume it is a pain to find, too.

Appreciate the reply. One can purchase bags of silver coins at about 15-20% higher than their value in silver at the time. For ex. I see them selling for 35.81 and the price of silver is 30.60
Maybe I am thinking wrong, but in a doomsday type situation wont gold and silver be worth a lot more than presently? I would guess bartering would be the main economy with a few transactions actually being valuable metals - gold and silver?

You're probably right if the dollar collapses and paper becomes worthless. This seems the safe assumption because gold and silver are shooting through the roof and the 5 and 10 year charts look great. I tend to agree with the hyperinflationistas, too, but there are still a few really smart deflationists making their case. Cash would be king in that situation. Keep in mind, we were apparently on the verge of a financial collapse in '08 that would likely have been deflationary. Anyway, here's the argument:

Silver would be a good investment even if you didn't believe in collapse...

You can't eat silver or protect it without guns so I would probably stock up on ammo and rationa first. If it ever gets to that point I think we are all fricked anyway.

I'm thinking about building a post apocolypse club med on my farm. It's my billion dollar idea.

I didn't see the 15-20% spread before I replied. The OP would be much better off buying the SLV fund. Now if the OP is really worried about collapse, but guns and ammo. If you want to make money, buy silver.

Clearly dinars are required.

It would definitely be the best asset to hold if Werewolves take over the planet.
I'm going to write a seekingalpha article about that and it will move markets.
