Well look at it this way -- if the show goes on for many more seasons, they HAVE to say who the mom is.
This season -- with Marshal's dad dying, having the kid -- shows the change from 20-somethings to 30-somethings. The show is capturing a generation that went from college to single adults and now an older part of life.
The episode where Ted buys the run-down house, I think, is how the show will turn.
I think they can show who the mom is (b/c they have to have kids -- Saget isn't 60 and the kids are teenagers) and then take it to "this is how we built our home."
The run-down house episode shows how the room with the kids changed. There was another episode about some of the stuff on the shelf behind the kids.
Once disclosing who the mother is, which they have to do, they can continue the show by making each episode about building the house, decorations in the "current day" couch scene, etc.

There is an episode when Ted and Barney go out and get crazy at a club. Ted gets wasted and has a moral hangover the next day after talking with Marshall. He ends up going back to the club and gets the Yellow Umbrella.
In this episode, he mentions that "your mother" was at the club that night. Clearly, the yellow umbrella is for her.
Well, at one point in the episode, they come back from commecial break and the first clip has Ted bumping into a woman. The scene is totally out of place and unnecessary, except for the fact that I believe that is his future wife. When he finally does "meet" her they will show flashbacks and they will show her in that seen.

basically the 2 episodes with rachel bilson gives you all you need to know about who the mom is

quote:he has referred to her as "Aunt Robin". they aren't from kentucky.
why you say that?
when ted is narrating, he never says anything about robin, he always refers to everyone else as "aunt lilly" "uncle marshall" etc.

do you mind telling me here what that is?
Maybe put a spoiler warning in the post.
I've seen all the episodes, but I don't remember those episodes that well.

it doesnt spell it out or anything, just gives you a show of how the mom is Ted's perfect girl, she's cool, likes music he likes, etc

I do remember him telling the kids this season that he met their mother at a wedding. And we did see that he is going to be the best man at a friends wedding coming up. Could be it, could be another set up.

good catch, and thanks for explaining the Bilson thing, guys.
I think we'll find out who the mother is sooner than a lot of people think and it'll turn toward the angle I previously posted.

The St Patricks day episode Ted says the mother was at the party he was at but he didnt know her yet. During the episode he has an awkward interaction for like 2secs with a girl where he runs into her then the show immediately carries on. I'm convinced this is the girl. Season1 or 2

I just watched on YouTube the part where he said he met the mother at a wedding. It shows Ted and Marshall running back into the reception hall as it starting to rain, Ted mentions he didn't bring and umbrella.
Chances he sees a yellow umbrella inside?

pretty good since this is season 6.
That said he is going to best man for his friends wedding that is planned but in the last episode or 2 Robin asked him to be her "best man" at her wedding so at which wedding he meets her IDK

I think that once they introduce us to the mother there will be one more season
False...
Next season is the last season.

to show how involved she was through out the series.
Isn't that what all the other episodes are for?
I'm a HUGE fan of this show, and my money is on Wendy the waitress.
She's around all the time, good reason for Cindy (Rachel Bilson) to be at that bar.
Also if it's someone we've known all along it will go along better with the mystique of the show.
Lastly things that will happen next season...
(SPOILERS)
Lily gets pregnant
Barney meets his father, Jerome Whittaker (played by John Lithgow)
Ted will actually design and build his dream building
Robin meets her husband (or as I believe, she marries Barney)
Marshall leaves GNB and works for a company to save the environment.
Also there was mention of Barney having a little sister.. I think we may finally meet her as well.
Some of this is fact and other is my speculation.
