While reading a Rivals article, they mentioned this Louisiana class was perhaps the best since the 2001 class.
Since Rivals only dates back to 2002 I was wondering if anyone could give a rundown of some players we signed that year.
Thanks!

And these guys were bandied about as the best in their respective positions (Spears was still a TE, but widely regarded as the best "large" ATH in the country, too). Rudy Niswanger, Ronnie Prude and Brandon Williams (regarded as the best S in the country - never played) were also highly rated Louisiana players in this class.
ETA - Clayton and Spears were highly regarded basketball prospects as well.

Yeah, Whitworth was rated higher than Niswanger, nationally, too.

Ben Wilkerson was 5* and #1 OL. Travis Daniels was in that class. Rick Clausen also lol.
Joseph Addai was 4* I think.
Spears was #1 TE David Jones was #2

Not only top in the country, but I remember seeing experts saying he had the potential to become the next Keith Jackson or Eric Green.
I love watching teams with good tight ends, and remember being a little upset that he was playing defense at LSU. Of course, that worked out well for the Tigers and Spears, but I still wonder how good he could have been at tight end.

I dont think people realize just how nasty the combination of these last two classes are...'10 and '11 ...the next 3 or so years could be incredible.

Highly rated, but wouldn't make it in until '02 I think.

I don't know what he was "ranked", but I remember there was a lot of buzz around him.

Joseph Addai
Remember when he was bulked up after his RS freshman year to play fullback.

then after his Soph year going into the Oregon St. game we tried making him a WR.

One of the best players of 2001 was our center from TX Wilkerson. He started as a FR and played 4 years.

Great OLINE recruits in 2001.

And I didn't mention the great Texas and Florida players in that class because the OP talked about "Louisiana talent". However, it was a great Texas class for us, and as another poster mentioned, one of the best OL classes in LSU history with Wilkerson, Whitworth and Niswanger playing together for several years and all earning All American honors or national awards along the way.

Always shocking that even in a class considered "best ever", at least half the guys never see significant playing time. Wish these prima donna HS recruits could understand that. Once they sign, they're just fresh meat.
No coincidence that this lead into the 2003 NC. That and QB is the only knock on Mile's recruiting before this year.
