Is Bowling the only sport?

..that officials don't influence the outcome? BTW, neither of us bowl. But every sport we can think of is greatly influenced by the subjective judgment of an official.
In bowling a light tells you if you went past the foul line and you either knocked the pins down or you didn't, no gray area.
Just dinnertime discussion with my wife, are we right??

Officials are basically irrelevant in tennis now. That's probably the only one that's close

what's the wtf for? The challenge system means that officials basically don't matter 99% of the time

The challenge system MAKES them relevant.

track sprinting
They have something electronic in the starting blocks to detect false starts. They have a camera at the end to detect close finishes. They have objective drug tests to control cheating.
That's only at the highest levels of course. Some high school meet is still doing to have somebody watching the start and holding a stopwatch.

I think officials inspect the balls of the bowler before the match commences. Which probably makes for an uncomfortable moment..

there are officials who walk around with the golfers to determine drops, if the player moved his ball etc.

Big golf tourneys have officials behind every tree.

The only ones I can think of as a maybe are dog racing and horse racing for the race itself but I'm sure there are officials who check the animals and jockeys before the race.

There's a number of fouls in horse racing, like blocking other horses, that are subjective. Same with a sport like cycling

ask Dustin Johnson.

Yea, but officials have little outcome on the game in most cases. A pro golfer will need what, maybe one or two drops a round?
And Dustin Johnson fricked himself over - its not like that was an interpretation by an official like you see in other sports (ball/strike, charge/block, holding, etc.)

The Officials in Golf are there for clarification of the rules. The Officials don't call fouls on golfers. They interpret the rules and decide whether a penalty should have been assessed. Golfers call the penalties on themselves and if they don't they get DQ'd....looking at you Paddie and Camillo!!
