These kids know the rules and what Mainieri expects from them. I'm sure they've been told many times.

PM's quote above leaves an opening as to was he referring to the team in general or KK having previous team violations?

id say leaving room for just incase an upper class guy that we know can contribute does something like this. he can say the guy has paid his dues and this is a one time thing and punish him internally instead of kicking him.

I don't mean to be a dick..but if you do not think drinking and driving is a big deal..then do us a favor and go drive your arse off a fricking cliff. DWI's are serious. I don't give a shite if it is Ben McDonald out there pitching for LSU. If you are stupid enough to drink and drive, then you are too dumb to play baseball at LSU. These damn kids think they are invincible until they swerve into another lane and kill some innocent bystander. I want LSU baseball to have 10 all-american's but if they are dumb enough to risk their lives and others...I would rather not field a team. This is keeping the shite real bro. frick yourself up with a DWI but don't go calling your daddy or Paul Maineri when your arse is in jail for manslaughter.

You are not a dick, Klingler, you ARE keeping it real...I wish more would heed your words of wisdom, instead of those who want to paint any athlete as incapable of doing wrong. If anything, athletes should be held to a HIGHER standard; to begin with, they are getting a FREE scolly to represent the University...that should mean something....

I think the timing of this is what screwed Koziol.
T Bob Hebert got his during the offseason and Miles had all summer to run his arse off.

Koziol, on the eve of reporting for practice, when pitchers and catchers have already reported, is out till 300 am and then gets a DUI - he's really concerned about contending for playing time if that's where his priorities are. You had the whole semester break to party.

Not to mention when roster spots are so precious with limits for baseball, LSU baseball has 25 players that would die for that spot. LSU will get another walk on and then it opens a spot for next years class.

Got to be more to the story? If not than PM has lost touch with what you can expect from teenagers.

1. Drinking age is 21. He is 19. Fact
2. Drunk driving kills people. Fact
3. Someone should be cited for giving/selling him alchohol. Fact

I sure hope it wasn't another teamate that supplied the alchohol, or this could get worse.

But, doesn't this open up a spot for Spencer Ware?

It's a very tightly guarded secret. The guy I know who is very very close to LSU baseball won't even hint at it. I don't know what he did, but it must've been serious.

Yep. Sounds pretty simple to me. The coach at some point probably told the players that DWI was something that was totally unacceptable and not to do it, under any circumstance. Then the player went out and did it, anyway. I like the example our coach sets.

That's a strange way of putting it.

I'd say that getting kicked off of the LSU team as a result of the DWI was worse than the direct punishment from the DWI itself.

But, Mainieri didn't harm Koziol. Koziol did it to himself.

Think Mettenberger at Georgia but not an illegal act.

I'll let you draw the conclusions from there.

Stricter laws are in place this year at LSU for DUI's. All infractions are reported to the university and subsequent steps are taken.

In the past, even last year or fall, it was quite possible to get a DUI and the university not know about it.

In graduate school, a DUI could mean being kicked out now.
