Ever Taken a Cooking Class?

There's an article in today's Times-Pic on available cooking classes in the area. LINK
Anyone here ever take a class? My wife and I took one at the place in the Riverwalk once. It was thoroughly enjoyable, although a little "touristy".

I never have, but really want to do that kind of stuff one day.
The classes mentioned in that article that used to be at that house on the Bayou seem to be really kick arse.

I've also seen that the Jefferson Parish Recreation department has some classes periodically, but I've never taken one of those.

If you want to do a weekend type trip, the Viking Cooking School in Greenwood Miss is great. They have theme classes (steak, fish) usually on a Friday night. The class is with 5 or 6 other couples - lots of wine and the food was great.
Warning: it is hard to walk out of the Viking store after the class and not buy something - not cheap, but great stuff.
The Alluvian Hotel is right across the street - makes for a great weekend getaway.

Why would you take a cooking class when it's free on the Food Channel every day?

I know the Director there very well. She is married to a good friend of mine. They live in Rosedale, MS. Her mom is a great portrait artist, and spends a lot of time in NO painting.

ive seen these short time day type classes before and it looks fun.
I am looking more for a longer class to learn how to cook better, faster, and have more range from what i normally cook.
Is there anything like this in BR??
