I'm willing to be it goes something like this
"Woman in the woods on her husbands stand that he put her on just to get her to quit bitching. Big buck walks out. She shoots it. Divorce pending."

There ain't no deer like that where I hunt. I'm sure she's somewhere up there around Tensas, or on a plantation/ranch.

There was a story about this deer but I can not find it online. Maybe it was in La Sportsman?

Props to any man/woman/child that could have that beast within bow range and hold a steady bead and let one fly.

If your taxi could not make a shoulder mount out of that you may need to look for a new taxi

Very true. All he would need is a cape, and he probably already has one. That is a lot of bone right there. Congrats to her

I can tell you that the pic was taken in a hospital if that helps.

Not doubting you bp, but I that picture is from the simmons big buck contest in bastrop and there are other people on the big board with that same backdrop. I just assumed that was somewhere at simmons.

But why would you want a mount with the set of horns on another deer?

"Wow, that's a huge deer!"
"Well, that's the horns from the deer I killed, I don't know who killed the deer"

Most taxis don't even tan there own hides so most times you are not getting your hide back anyway. And all the inside of the mount is a mold, and all you have is a small piece of skull and the antlers.

Everyplace I have ever taken one uses that cape. I know that last one my dad had mounted had the same torn up ears and battle scars.

Nothing was ruined. After a trophy is harvested the cape is removed from the skull and either tanned or chemically preserved. The antlers are cut off the skull (like the photo). The antlers are then placed in the foam deer head. The cape is then pulled over the foam, sutured on, and the rest of the taxidermy is done.

Everyplace I have taken mine do there own tanning as well, but thats only 2 places. And thats because I specifically asked that question when looking for a Taxi. Alot of Taxis have gotten away from tanning because it has gotten cheaper just to farm it out to a tannery.
